Abstract:
A device and method are provided for dispensing a beverage from a pressurized container. The dispensing device includes an integral source of compressed gas for maintaining the beverage within the container at a desired pressurized state. The dispensing device also includes a regulator for controlling the flow of gas from the compressed gas source to the interior of the container, as well as a pressure relief mechanism that accounts for potential over pressurization of the container. The beverage is selectively dispensed by actuation of a tap handle. Delivery is achieved through the device by a resilient delivery tube, and the delivery tube is either pinched closed or allowed to decompress by the actuation of the tap handle. In another embodiment, a check valve is used to control flow of the beverage in which the tap handle activates a transfer rod to seat and unseat a check element. The device can be manufactured in either a unitary construction or a modular construction. Modular construction provides greater flexibility in testing and replacement of defective components.
Abstract:
A redraw apparatus is provided for a can body making apparatus wherein the redraw carriage (40) of the redraw apparatus is mounted for substantially friction-free sliding reciprocating movement over a pair of spaced apart support posts (70,72) which are fixedly mounted on the housing (18) holding the can forming and ironing dies. Also, a counterbalancing system (110) is provided for applying a force to counterbalance the weight of a portion of structures used to reciprocate the redraw carriage (40). Additionally, a ram assembly (150) is provided for supporting a ram (14) for movement through the redraw apparatus and the can forming and ironing dies wherein a pair of spaced apart elongated shafts (154,156) are fixedly mounted and a ram carriage (12) having the ram attached thereto is provided with liquid bearings (180,182) for mounting the ram carriage (12) on the elongated shafts (154,156) for substantially friction free movement thereover. A guide liquid bearing is also used to ensure proper alignment of the ram.

A decorator apparatus and methods for applying an ink image to. cylindrical can body members comprising multiple station ink supply and transfer apparatus for transferring ink from an ink fountain to a blanket wheel through a plate cylinder with ink image registration adjustment apparatus and axial and circumferential tightness control apparatus operatively associated with each plate cylinder and each ink supply and transfer apparatus.
Abstract:
A mandrel assembly for use in a machine for the continuous printing of cylindrical containers (2), comprising a mandrel wheel (10); mandrel holders (8), pivotally mounted on circumferential portions of the mandrel wheel; elongated spindles (34) for supporting cylindrical containers on the peripheral surfaces thereof, rotatably mounted on the mandrel holder and radially displaceable relative to the central axis (26) of rotation of the mandrel wheel; a cam follower (48) rotatably mounted on each mandrel holder; a cam track assembly (50) operably associated with the cam followers for causing preselected radial displacement of the cam followers with respect to the central axis of rotation of the mandrel wheel which in turn causes preselected radial displacement of associated mandrel spindles relative to a printing blanket wheel device to cause a container to be printed; skip-print apparatus comprising a pivot arm (44) pivotally mounted on the mandrel wheel and rotatable relative to each mandrel holder and having a surface bearing against a rotatable cam (64) having a first cam surface (66) for permitting printing of the cylindrical container and a second cam surface (68) for positioning the mandrel holder at a radially inward location so that an elongated spindle or an improperly positioned cylindrical container thereon will not contact the printing blanket wheel device and control means for rotating or not rotating the rotatable cam.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for treating a wort composition in a kettle, said method providing a significant energy saving compared to existing wort treatment processes. In particular, the process includes a hot-hold step for the wort, followed by gas sparging at elevated temperatures.
