    Abstract: 1447802 Rectifier construction RADIATION DYNAMICS Inc 31 Aug 1973 [21 May 1973] 41177/73 Heading H2F A high voltage rectifier assembly comprises series-connected groups of series-connected diodes, each group being surrounded by a shield 21, the shields being electrically isolated from one another and arranged end-to-end, each shield being arranged to overlap the adjacent shield so as to provide radio frequency shielding and to increase the self-capacitance between groups, resistors being connected between respective groups of diodes and the respective shield section so as to provide a graded potential along the assembly. As described, each section includes two concentric shields 21, 22, the inner shield 22 projecting into the outer shield 21 of the next section. Each section may be arranged as shown in Fig. 5, each group of three silicon diodes and capacitors 55 ... 57 being formed on a printed circuit board, Fig. 6 (not shown). The capacitors 55 ... 57 equalize the potential distribution along the chain. An inductor (not shown) is included in series with the end of each assembly, being bridged by a spark gap 31, each pair of shields being bridged by further spark gaps 40. In the event of over-voltage, the first spark gap 31 exhibits the highest voltage and is arranged to break down first, the ultra violet radiation from it triggering the other spark gaps 40 so that the whole series chain breaks down, protecting the diodes. A number of such assemblies may be arranged as a voltage multiplying rectifier (connections not shown), operating at a radio frequency in a particle accelerator.

    Abstract: Verfahren zum Bestrahlen von strangförmigem Bestrahlgut (19; 19a–e), mit quer zur Längsachse des Bestrahlgutes (19; 19a–e) auftreffenden Elektronenstrahlen (18), welche das Bestrahlgut (19; 19a–e) aus zwei festen, zueinander in einem von Null verschiedenen Winkel stehenden Bestrahlungsrichtungen (R1, R2) treffen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass aus einem Elektronenstrahl (11) in einem Scanner (12) mittels einer Scaneinrichtung (13) ein gescannter Elektronenstrahl (17) erzeugt wird, welcher durch zeitlich gesteuertes Hin- und Herschwenken in einem vorgegebenen Winkelbereich quer zur Längsrichtung des Bestrahlgutes (19; 19a–e) einen Strahlenfächer erzeugt, und dass der gescannte Elektronenstrahl (17) durch einen zwischen der Scaneinrichtung (13) und dem Bestrahlgut (19; 19a–e) angeordneten Ablenkmagneten (16, 16') für jeden Scanwinkel des Strahlungsfeldes so abgelenkt wird, dass er aus einer der beiden festen Bestrahlungsrichtungen (R1, R2) auf das zu bestrahlende Bestrahlgut (19; 19a–e) trifft.

The output of each secondary circuit is rectified. The output of all secondary circuits is combined in series to provide the high DC potential. The seconary cores are supplied in parallel from the magnetic flux of the primary coil. The primary core and coil form an essentially cylindrical shell, with the secondary cores and coils located within the cylinder interior.

    Abstract: APPARATUS FOR GUIDING CABLE THROUGH A RADIATION CHAMBER WITH REDUCED LEAKAGE THEREFROM Apparatus for guiding a cable travelling along a longitudinal path through a beam of radiation in a shielded chamber, the apparatus including rollers disposed about the cable in a manner which prevents the leakage of radiation via apertures in the chamber through which the cable enters and exits. Specifically, the apparatus includes sets of rollers spaced at longitudinal intervals along the cable, the rollers in each set being positioned at angular intervals about the longitudinal axis of the cable. An angular offsetting of rollers in different sets, so that a roller in one set is longitudinally aligned with the spacing between rollers in other sets, is provided. By selecting rollers of prescribed dimensions, by placing the rollers at prescribed angular intervals in each set, and by angularly offsetting a plurality of sets by prescribed angles, a plurality of sets of rollers--when placed proximate to the entrance or exit to an aperture--can preclude radiation leakage through the aperture. The cable and the sets of rollers are, preferably, rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the cable. The rollers are adjustable to abut against cables of varying diameters, the axes of the rollers being substantially perpendicular to the cable axis, thereby allowing roller rotation during cable travel.
