Said sheet is subjected to a cold lamination process at a strength-hardening level greater than 40% in order to obtain a sheet having, on the one hand, a thickness of between 0.8 and 2.5 mm, and on the other hand, an elastic limit greater than 700 MPa whereby the sheet is cut again so as to obtain a steel strip (3) which is then continuously notched or goffered. The disc can be made from the can lid, which. is shaped by dies prior to fitting to the can to produce the disc (4), which can be slightly curved in shape, and a stretched cylindrical edge round the hole, which can then be rolled and compressed to fix the disc in place and seal it. The edges (10e,10f) of the material of the lid surrounding the disc can be compressed with a sufficient effort which is appropriate to the sealing requirements and allowing the can to be easily opened, e.g. by a ring attached to the disc.
