Abstract: A gas laser for emitting ultraviolet laser light with a wave length of 248-249 nm, the gas mixture in the resonance chamber containing krypton, fluor or a fluor compound, and argon in such quantities that at room temperature the partial argon pressure exceeds 0.5 bar and the partial pressure of krypton and fluor or the fluor compound is smaller than 0.2 bar. The gas mixture in the resonance chamber also contains neon in such a quantity that its partial pressure at room temperature is at least equal to that of the argon.

Abstract: 755,495. Nuclear reactors. STICHTING VOOR FUNDAMENTEEL ONDERZOEK DER MATERIE. Nov. 22, 1954 [Nov. 25, 1953], No. 33764/54. Class 39 (4). Fissile material in suspension or solution is made to flow through a reactor 1 and heat exchanger 2 by gas injected from a pipe 4 and removed in a separator 6. H 2 and D 2 produced by radiation are catalytically oxidized at 8 and returned from 9 to the separator 6, if the carrier liquid is aqueous. Gaseous fission products are carried over with the injected gas and removed at 10 and other fission products are removed at 11. The gas injected may be air, O 2 , He, CO, CO 2 or N 2 . The fissile material may be dissolved in H 2 O or D 2 O or suspended in water or a liquid metal.

Abstract: 752,152. Nuclear reactors. STICHTING VOOR FUNDAMENTEEL ONDERZOEK DER MATERIE. June 11, 1954 [June 12, 1953], No. 17264/54. Class 39 (4). In a nuclear reactor using heavy water as a moderator, the walls separating the moderator from the fission space are constructed of aluminium or tightly sintered beryllium oxide, coated with aluminium oxide, carbon or loosely sintered beryllium oxide. This is stated to give good heat insulating properties together with good neutron transmission characteristics.

Abstract: 751,700. Nuclear reactors. STICHTING VOOR FUNDAMENTEEL ONDERZOEK DER MATERIE. Sept. 15, 1954 [Sept. 19, 1953], No. 26787/54. Class 39 (4). In a nuclear reactor, an enclosing jacket of bismuth, which acts as a shield and a reflector, is adapted to be cooled. As shown, the reactor 1 is supplied with nuclear fuel in the form of a suspension of uranium oxide in heavy water circulated through the tubes 6. The moderator, heavy water, is circulated through space 5. The bismuth jacket 3, enclosed in the steel shell 2, is cooled by coolant in tubes 4.

Abstract: 698,447. Frictional electrostatic generators. DlJCK, W. J. D. VAN, and STICHTING VOOR FUNDAMENTEEL ONDERZOEK DER MATERIE. Nov. 1, 1951 (Nov. 2, 1950], No. 25595/51. Class 35. Static electricity is generated by the friction of an insulating liquid forced through a series of earthed parallel plates or tubes 2 and is collected in a conducting vessel 4 which serves as the output terminal. The liquid, which may be petrol or other hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon of low viscosity or carbon disulphide is circulated by a pump 1 and passes to and from the vessel 4 by insulating tubes 3, 6, turbulence being reduced on entering the vessel by a venturi-tube 5, and a cooling device 7 being inserted if required. In order to increase the charge-carrying capacity of the liquid, ionizable substances, e.g. soaps or sulphonates, are added, and to facilitate the transfer of charge to the vessel 4 the conductivity is increased by the addition of bituminous substances. It is stated that the metal plates 2 may be situated in the terminal vessel and a device using two liquid circuits producing a double voltage is described. Specification 113,679, [Class 35], is referred to.
