Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diagnosing prostate cancer of a patient by detecting a PCA3 sequence, for example, a PCA3 RNA in a sample from the patient to be or not to be specifically associated with prostate cancer, and an in vitro method for detecting kidney cells or bladder cells from a non-prostate sample derived from the urinary tract. SOLUTION: The method for detecting the presence of kidney cells or bladder cells in the sample includes isolating the RNA from the non-prostate sample derived from the objective organism, amplifying PCA3 nucleic acid contained in the RNA using a primer and detecting the amplified nucleic acid including intron 3 of PCA3 or a complimentary chain thereof in the collected amplified product. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound which binds to a C-type lectin on the surface of a sinusoidal endothelial cell in a liver and a lymph node for modulating the immune response in animal. SOLUTION: A use of a compound which binds to a C-type lectin on the surface of a sinusoidal endothelial layer, in the preparation of a composition for modulating, in particular reducing, the immune response in animal, in particular a human or another mammal is a use in an embodiment wherein the above sinusoidal endothelial layer is constituted by a liver sinusoidal endothelial cell (LSEC), or a use in another embodiment wherein the above sinusoidal endothelial layer is constituted by a lymph node sinusoidal zone. Abstract:
Abstract:
The present invention is in the field of automated systems and methods for improving of oral language proficiency. As a result of increasing internationalization there is a growing demand from education and business community for people who speak foreign languages well. An intelligible pronunciation is regarded as important for e.g. successful inter- action and social acceptance. However, an important problem is that oral proficiency training requires so much time, feedback and practice, that very often it cannot be sufficiently provided in traditional language classes. Thereto an automated system is provided.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a compound according to the formula [1] wherein R1 and R2 are branched or straight groups having up to 17 atoms selected from carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur, n is 0 to and including 18, Y is sulphur or selene, X is S or 0 and R is -OH or an organic group comprising one or more peptides, one or more nucleic acids, one or more antibodies or combinations thereof. The invention is also directed to process for preparing said compound and the use of said compound as an adjuvant. The invention is also directed to a composition comprising said compound and the use of said composition, for example as a vaccine composition.
Abstract:
The present invention is concerned with a method for measuring blood coagulation status in a saliva sample from a subject by measuring the concentration of various proteins which have been demonstrated to correlate with the international normalized ratio in said saliva. The invention further relates to a non-invasive device for performing said method, as well as a kit suitable for performing said method.
Abstract:
Described is a method for obtaining hollow particles, having a particle wall and a particle lumen, the particle having dimensions of between 1 nm and 100 µm, from a mixture comprising a liquid medium comprising at least one colloid or solute, the method comprising freezing said mixture and lyophilising the obtained frozen mixture, characterised in that a volume of at least 0.1 µl of the mixture is subjected to a freezing step comprising: (a) (1) quench freezing the mixture resulting in a quench frozen mixture, and (2) incubating said quench frozen mixture at a temperature above the quench freezing temperature and below the melting point of the liquid medium, or b) (1) reducing the temperature of the mixture at a rate of 1 to 100 °C/minute to below the freezing temperature of the mixture and (2) incubating said frozen mixture at a temperature above the temperature of the mixture and below the melting point of the liquid medium. Further, hollow particles obtainable by the said method, compositions comprising said hollow particles and uses thereof are described.
