    Abstract: A system for evaluating multiphase flow of a fluid downhole in a borehole. Dielectric permittivity electrodes generate a capacitance output signal through the fluid, and conductivity electrodes generate a conductivity output signal through the fluid. The electrodes are powered with an AC generator operating at the same or different frequencies. The capacitance and conductivity output signals can be alternately generated by operating a controller, and such signals can be combined with a multiplexer engaged with the controller. The signal can be processed downhole or can be transmitted to a receiver positioned at the well surface for processing and interpretation of the multiphase data.

    Abstract: A method of determining the conductivity of earth formations penetrated by a wellbore. The method includes inserting an induction well logging instrument into the wellbore. The instrument includes a transmitter, a source of alternating current connected to the transmitter, and a receiver. The transmitter is energized with the alternating current, voltages induced in the receiver are recorded, and area enclosed with respect to a baseline, by voltage peaks present in the recorded voltages is determined. The enclosed area corresponds to the conductivity.

    Abstract: A method of attenuating coherent environmental noise from a multitrace digitized seismic recording adaptively creates a filter for that attenuation. The method uses the presence, on the recording, of a limited sample of pure noise that is uncontaminated by desired signal. The pure noise sample is used to discover the location of the noise source and from that discovery, to extrapolate and reconstruct the characteristics of the noise envelope as it would appear on the seismic recording. The reconstructed noise envelope is used as a noise reference for input to a conventional iterative adaptive noise cancellation filter loop (24, 28, 30) . For stability, the loop gain is minimized by temporally and spatically averaging the filter coefficients of the loop for each sample interval.

    Abstract: The invention is a method for installing a wireline inside a coiled tubing. A first piston is attached to one end of the wireline. A pump-through head with a removable packing and a fluid inlet is attached to one end of the coiled tubing. The wireline and first piston are inserted through the pump-through head. The removable packing is reinstalled. Fluid pressure is applied by a pump to the fluid inlet. A section of wireline has been pumped into the coiled tubing. The pump is stopped. The packing is removed. A second piston for suspending the wireline from contact with the tubing is installed on the wireline. The steps are repeated at spaced apart intervals along the wireline until the wireline is inserted in the coiled tubing.
