PURPOSE: An image encoding method using a prediction mode and a computer-readable recording medium thereof are provided to improve encoding efficiency by improving the accuracy of prediction by reducing a difference between an encoding target pixel value and a reference pixel value. CONSTITUTION: An encoder applies a vertical prediction mode to a first sub block (311) included in a macro block (310). The encoder applies the vertical prediction mode to a second sub block (320) included in the macro block. The encoder applies the vertical prediction mode to a third sub block (330) and a fourth sub block (340). Each line (331-334,341-344) is encoded by referring to a vertical direction.
