    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title resin readily soluble in water and useful as a printing plate-making material, non-silver salt image-forming material, aqueous coating base and vehicle for printing ink by reacting PVA, etc., with a specific pyridinium ilide compound. CONSTITUTION:(A) PVA or partially saponified polyvinyl acetate is made to react with (B) a pyridinium ilide compound expressed by formula II (R and R are lower alkyl or R and R together form alkylene) to provide the objective resin consisting of a PVA derivative having a unit expressed by formula II and 300-3000 polymerization degree. Furthermore, the component B is preferably used at a ratio of 0.1-5mol% based on vinyl alcohol unit of the component A.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve definition and exposing rate by exposing the recording material with visible rays and laser beam, and forming surface relief images by the heating alone without using a developer after exposing. CONSTITUTION:The relief images are formed only by the heating treatment after exposing. A high-pressure mercury lamp, ultra-high pressure mercury lamp, high-pressure xenon lamp, halogen lamp, etc., are usable as a light source. After the recording body is exposed for a prescribed period of time by using such light sources, the recording body is heated in a dark place at 60 to 150 deg.C, more preferably 80 to 120 deg.C heating temp. The heating time is 1 to 20 minutes, more preferably 2 to 10 minutes. The exposing time necessary for the image formation is shortened if the heating is executed in the state saturated with steam. The exposing rate and definition are improved in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obviate the degradation of definition occurring in flowability with lapse of time by providing a liquid crystal layer contg. a dichromatic dye via a molecular layer of a compd. which is reversibly changed in structure by light on a transparent substrate. CONSTITUTION:This recording element has the structure in which a liquid crystal layer 3 is sandwiched between two sheets of the substrates 1 having the monomolecular layers 2 of a photochromic compd. The photochromic compd. causes a change in the structure when a part A thereof is irradiated by light and, therefore, the perpendicular arrangement of this part is broken and the liquid crystal attains the arrangement in parallel with the surface. The anisotropy of the dichromatic dye changes accordingly. Although the part B which is not irradiated by the light is pale in color, the part A irradiated by the light is changed to a dark color and, therefore, the reading of the light information by the transmittance of the light of the wavelength absorbed by the dye is executed. Since the light of the wavelength which does not generate photochromism by selection of the dye, the breakage of the information is obviated. The degradation of the definition by the liquid crystal having flowability with time is thereby obviated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition having excellent resolution as well as high water-resistance and solvent resistance and capable of imparting a resin with strong adhesivity to a printing base plate such as screen printing plate, by using a stilbazolium addition polymer as a main component together with an orthophosphoric acid compound and a phosphorous acid compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is composed mainly of a polyvinyl alcohol polymer added with stilbazolium group [e.g., the compound of formula (R1 is H, alkyl or aralkyl; R2 is H or lower alkyl; X is halogen ion, phosphoric acid ion, sulfuric acid ion, etc.; m is 0 or 1; n is 1-6)] and contains usually 2-10wt.% (based on said polymer) of an orthophosphoric acid compound (e.g., ethyl phosphate or polyoxyethylene lauryl phosphate) and/or a phosphorous acid compound (e.g., diethyl phosphite or diallyl phosphite).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title compsn. which has good water resistance, is not colored by aging or at the time of heating, and is improved in decomposability and ink receptivity at the time of thermal decomposition by consisting said compsn. of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) deriv. which is made pendant with styryl pyridine, styryl quinoline and styryl benzothiazole and carboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION:This compsn. consists of the PVA deriv. having the constituting unit expressed by formula I and the carboxylic acid selected from hydrogy acetic acid, oxalic acid, lactic acid, malonic acid, tartaric acid, succinic acid and citric acid. In formula I, m denotes integer in the range of 1-6; n denotes 0 or 1; R denotes a hydrogen atom, halogen, alkyl group or alkoxy group of 1-6C; A denotes a residual nitrogenous heterocyclic group selected from pyri dine, quinoline and benzothiazole. The compsn. which can be developed by an aq. developing soln., has the good water resistance, is not colored by aging or at the time of heating, has the good not generate corrosive gases at the time of heating and improves the ink receptivity is thereby obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A chelate resin which can adsorb and recover a trivial amount of metallic ions and is resistant to hydrolysis, comprising a polyethyleneimine polymer compound in which the nitrogen atoms have specified 2-hydroxybenzoyl group substituents. CONSTITUTION:A chelate resin comprising a polyethyleneimine polymer compound in which the nitrogen atoms have 2-hydroxybenzoyl group substituents of formula I (wherein X is H, hydroxyl or nitro). This resin can be obtained by suspending a crosslinked polyethyleneimine polymer compound in a solvent (preferably, dioxane or tetrahydrofuran) and reacting the suspended polymer with an active 2-hydroxybenzoic acid derivative of formula II (wherein X is H, hydroxyl or nitro and Y is chlorine, azido, phenyl or substituted phenyl) (at about 40-100 deg.C for about 1-48hr).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the optical response speed and to improve the repeating reproducibility and the shelf stability of a record by dispersing a clathrate compound consisting of a specified anthracene deriv. and gamma-cyclodextrin in a resin binder. CONSTITUTION:An anthracene deriv. represented by the formula (where R is a hydrophilic substituent) and gamma-cyclodextrin are dissolved in an aqueous medium to form a clathrate compound, and light is irradiated to dimerize the anthracene deriv. in the clathrate compound. A resin binder is dissolved in the soln. and formed into a film, and the dimer of the anthracene deriv. in the clathrate compound dispersed in the resin film is depolymerized by irradiating light on the resin film or heating the film. Thus,a reversible org. optical memory material showing photochromism by a reversible photodimerization reaction in the resin binder is obtd. The optical memory material has a satisfactory optical response property and superior reversibility in the writing of information and gives a record with superior shelf stability and processability. It is used as an optical information storing or recording material.
