Abstract:
This invention relates to thermally-stable, polyglycidyl-terminated polyesters from diglycidyl phthalates and carboxylated polyesters. The resulting resins, when blended and cured with other carboxylated polyesters, are improved binders for powder coating and other applications. The invention also relates to polyglycidyl ester-based powder coating compositions containing these resins. The powder coating compositions have a Tg of about 50 DEG C or greater and cure to a thermoset in about 20 minutes or less at about 200 DEG C to about 250 DEG C, and preferably in about 10 minutes or less at about 200 DEG C.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for using a pressure swing adsorption separator system to provide an oxygen-depleted gaseous effluent for injecting into a suitable solid carbonaceous subterranean formation, such as a coalbed, to enhance the recovery of methane from the formation.
Abstract:
Processes are disclosed for separating an oxygen-containing gas into oxygen-enriched and oxygen-depleted streams. The oxygen-depleted stream is injected into a methane-containing solid carbonaceous subterranean formation to produce a methane-containing gaseous mixture. The oxygen-enriched stream is reacted with a stream containing an oxidizable material which can be the methane-containing mixture.
Abstract:
A catalyst and process are described which are particularly effective in the dehydrogenation of one or more C3 to C6 saturated hydrocarbons. The catalyst, made by a simplified preparation process, is a platinum-loaded aluminosilicate molecular sieve exhibiting the MFI structure. The supported or unsupported catalyst when used to dehydrogenate alkanes is long-lived; it also has an excellent conversion and selectivity to the corresponding olefin while exhibiting minimal coking.
Abstract:
A process for preparing purified 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid comprises hydrolyzing a dialkyl-2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate with water at a reaction temperature of at least about 450 DEG F under liquid phase condition, the amount of water present being sufficient to solubilize, at the reaction temperature, at least about 10 percent of the 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid formed. This process provides for 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid having an average particle size of at least about 100 microns.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are boron trifluoride etherate complexes in which the ether of the complex has at least one tertiary carbon bonded to an ether oxygen. The etherates are useful for polymerizing a one-olefin or mixtures thereof, preferably comprising isobutylene, whereby the resulting polymer contains a high percentage (80-100 %) vinylidene character.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for providing signal modulation or control of collector initialized and sustained field emission in field emitter devices without input circuit loading. A special control gate is used to modulate emission with no resultant steady-state emitter-gate current, thus increasing input resistance. The control gate may be well spaced from the emitter tip and the collector because it is not used to initiate and sustain emission form the emitter. This lowers emitter-gate and collector gate capacitances, thereby increasing input reactance for high frequency input signals. The collector-sustained field emission provides a low output resistance with relatively great collector-emitter spacing to provide high output reactance so that the high frequency response is extended. One practical embodiment of this invention employs an emission element (34) protruding through an annular control gate (42). Applications of this apparatus include display devices, mechanical pressure transducers and electron sources for laser materials.
Abstract:
A method for simultaneously shearing nucleic acids into substantially monodisperse fragments of appropriate length for sandwich hybridization analysis, and denaturing these fragments into single-stranded polynucleotides available for hybridization. The method is additionally useful for lysing intact cells or unicellular organisms in which nucleic acid sequences are present. The present method comprises the noninvasive sonication of a sample in the presence of a sufficient concentration of a chaotropic agent to induce the denaturation of double-stranded polynucleotide shear fragments upon sonication, and without a subsequent thermal denaturization step. This invention is particularly useful for the analysis of human clinical, veterinary, foodstuff, water supply, and environmental samples by nucleic acid sandwich hybridization.
