Abstract: Aqueous dye solutions are purified by ultrafiltration, precision filtration or reverse osmosis using (i) a membrane or filter having a pore diameter slightly larger than the dye molecules to remove dispersants, surfactants and colloidal and polymeric substances, and (ii) a membrane having a pore diameter (slightly) smaller than the dye molecules to remove metal ions and their counterions. Inks made from the purified dyes have long-term stability and may be used in the ink-jet process.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce the consumption of a processing liquid in the case of utilizing a method of printing one pixel by carrying out a plurality of scannings in a printer jetting ink and the processing liquid for insolubilizing or flocculating the ink. CONSTITUTION: For instance, in the case a pixel corresponding to a printed data R3 is printed, inks of Y (yellow) and M (magenta) are jetted on the pixel by respective scannings consisting of the first scanning to the third scanning, and also a processing liquid (S) is jetted by the last third scanning only. The jet amount of the processing liquid can be reduced in comparison with the case of jetting the processing liquid every time of scanning by the arrangement.
