    Abstract: Aq. resin dispersions suitable for prepn. of colour having good wet adhesion are prepd. by copolymerisation of monomers (A)-(D). (A) is 20-80 (pref. 40-60) wt. % on total monomers of Me methacrylate, styrene and/or Vitoluene (imparting rigidity). (B) is 20-80 (pref. 40-60) wt. % of 2-8C alkyl (linear or branched) acrylates (imparting flexibility). (C) is 0.1-5 wt. % (meth)acrylic acid and/or (meth)acrylamide (H2O-sol.) and additionally; (D) is 0.5-10 wt. % of an acetoacetic ester of general formula CH3.CO.CH2.CO-X-CR=CR'.H, (where X=-O-, -O.CH2- or -O.CH2.CH2.O.CO- and R and R'=H or Me). Dispersions are useful for colouring non-absorbent substrates, partic. for gloss finishes. Disperse colours contg. low concns. of pigment for gloss or silk finishes have poor wet adhesion to non-absorbent substrates when after drying the film is rewetted. By use of the invention, however, partic. good wet adhesion is obtd.

    Abstract: Unsaturated acetoacetic acid esters are suitable as comonomers in the polymerization of unsaturated compounds in an aqueous medium. Particularly suitable are acetylacetoxyalkyl-allyl ethers which may be synthesized in an easy manner and correspond to the formulae or Said allyl ether derivatives are especially prepared by reacting an allyl alcohol with an epoxide and reacting the resulting hydroxyalkyl-allyl ether with diketene. Both reaction steps are carried out at a temperature of from 0 DEG to 100 DEG C., preferably in the presence of a catalyst. The allyl ether derivatives may be copolymerized especially with vinyl compounds, such as vinyl esters, acrylic acid esters, olefins, vinyl halides and vinyl aromatic hydrocarbons.

    Abstract: An aqueous polymer dispersion which is suitable for the preparation of paints having high wet adhesion is prepared by copolymerisation in aqueous medium of vinyl esters of saturated monocarboxylic acids in the presence of an olefinically unsaturated acetoacetate. The vinyl ester employed is vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl butyrate and/or vinyl isobutyrate together with vinyl esters of saturated monocarboxylic acids having 5 to 20 carbon atoms whose carboxyl group is bonded to a tertiary or quaternary carbon atom. The resultant dispersions are suitable for the preparation of gloss emulsion paints having high wet adhesion to non-sorptive substrates and have high resistance to hydrolysis.
