    Abstract: A process for the preparation of the dimer of hexafluoropropene oxide (HFPO), in which the HFPO is dimerized in an aprotic polar solvent in the presence of a catalyst mixture, is described. The catalyst mixture is composed of a metal salt of the elements of the 1st transition metal series of the periodic table and of a tertiary diamine. By bringing in a molar ratio of metal salt to tertiary diamine in the range from 2:1 to 1:2, in particular 1:1, the selectivity for the dimeric compound is greatest, with high yields of the dimer being obtained.

    Abstract: Monohydroperfluoroalkanesulfonic acid halides of the formula I (I) in which Rf=F or perfluoroalkyl, X=Cl or F and n=1-7, are prepared by reacting monohydroperfluoroalkanesulfonic acids of the formula II (II) in which Rf and n have the same meaning as in formula I, with pyrocatechol-phosphorus trichloride (->compounds I in which X=Cl) and, if desired, further reacting the products with alkali metal fluorides and/or alkali metal hydrogen fluorides (->compounds I in which X=F). With the exception of the compound in which Rf=F, n=1 and X=Cl (=HCF2-CF2-SO2Cl), the compounds I are new. The compounds I are chiefly intermediates in organic fluorine chemistry, in particular for the preparation of perfluorinated ion exchanger resins containing sulfonic acid groups.
