The magnetic layer contains a binder having at least two hydroxyl groups in one molecule and a number average mol.wt. of 5,000-50,000 and a compd. having two or more isocyanato groups in one molecule, ether bond in one molecule and a number average mol.wt. of 500-5,000.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve adhesion of a supporting body to a magnetic layer by using a composition consisting essentially of a polyester or a polyether containing an oxime based block isocyanate group as the ground paint. CONSTITUTION: This composition for a ground layer of the magnetic recording medium is composed primarily of a polyester or polyether containing 21 pieces of oxime based block isocyanate groups per molecule. In this composition for the ground layer of the magnetic recording medium, the isocyanate group (reproduced isocyanate group) blocked with a oxime based compd. is introduced in the polyester or the polyether. In this case, a reaction of the polyester or the polyether having the isocyanate group with the oxime based compd. may be executed in a solvent having no active hydrogen or without using solvent.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium of superior durability by setting a magnetic layer on one face and a back coat layer on the other face, and forming the magnetic layer of a magnetic paint containing a tertiary amine compound expressed by formula I with a hydroxyl group. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic layer formed on one face of a non-magnetic supporting body is obtained by applying a magnetic paint. The magnetic paint contains a tertiary amine compound with a hydroxyl group (referred to as a tertiary amine compound A hereinafter) and is expressed by formula I. The tertiary amine compound A has a tertiary amine group in the molecular structure thereof, and therefore exerts catalytic characteristics to a reaction between a hardener and a binder. Moreover, the tertiary amine compound A has a hydroxyl group at the terminal thereof, so that the compound itself reacts to the hardener and functions to accelerate to turn the binder into a polymer. It is most suitable to set the usage of the tertiary amine compound A in a range of 200ppm-8wt.% to the binder. The thickness of the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium after dried is preferably in a range of 0.05-5μm.

The magnetic layer 3 contains 0.5-3.0 pts.wt. fatty acid basing on 100 pts.wt. magnetic powder, 3.0-15 pts.wt. fatty acid ester basing on 100 pts.wt. binder and 2.0-5.0 pts.wt., in total, of the fatty acid and fatty acid ester basing on 100 pts.wt. of the magnetic powder.
