    Abstract: A laundering pretreatment composition for clothing which brings about an excellent cleaning effect when clothes to be cleaned are coated therewith and then laundered. It comprises (a) a surfactant, (b) a chelating agent having a specific calcium−trapping amount and a specific calcium stability constant and having a molecular weight of 1,000 or lower, (c) water, and (d) an alkali in respective specific proportions, and has a pH at 20°C of 7.5 to 12.
