Abstract: A zig-zag sewing machine has a series of cams juxtaposed on a drive shaft for controlling oscillation of a needle-bar cradle. Cam selection is achieved by a manual selector having two cam profiles, one of which controls a lever to space a feeler apart from the cams at the moment when the other cam profile controls another lever to move the feeler parallel to the drive shaft to change the cam with which the feeler cooperates.

Abstract: A variable-resistance foot control device for regulating the speed of an electric motor is particularly useful for sewing machines. It has a casing containing the variable-resistance element and a speed selection slider. The actuating member comprises a cover which pivots on a vertical axle against the action of a return spring which is fixed between the casing and said axle. The casing has a peripheral collar which the skirt of the cover surrounds and an annular support surface provided on the inside of the cover faces the collar. The slider is carried by a hinged lever actuated by turning the foot on the cover, whereby a pin and groove mechanism pivots the lever and moves the slider into contact with the contact points on the variable-resistance element.

Abstract: 1396520 Indicating apparatus MEFINA SA 15 Dec 1972 [8 March 1972] 58123/72 Heading G1J [Also in Division F2] The temperature setting of a thermostat (41) Fig.2 (not shown), controlling the heating plate (4) of an electric ironing press is indicated by the position of a division 61 between two adjacent and different sections 55, 56, at least one of which is translucent, of a tape 46 relative to indicia 58-60 on an at least partly translucent indicator panel 36, the tape 46 being moved by a thermostat control knob 34, in synchronism with adjustment of the thermostat, through a gap between a light source 54 and the panel 36. When turned to its low temperature limit position, the knob 34 switches off the power supply to the heating plate (4). A lamp 35 in the panel 36 is illuminated while power is supplied to the heating plate, and is extinguished when power is cut off by the thermostat when the desired temperature is attained. The knob 34 is connected to the thermostat (41) by gears 42, 43 and a universal coupling (44), Fig.2 (not shown). The tape 46 is secured at one end to a pulley 47 coupled to the gear 43 and at the other end to a return spring 49. The pulley 47 may be disconnected from the gear 43 for calibration of the indicator. Each tape end is gripped by an end fitting 48, the tape passing through a longitudinal slot in the wall of a cylindrical socket 63 to engage a diametral slot 68 of a spool 64 within the socket 63. The spool is rotated until several layers of tape jam the annular space between the spool and the socket. Preferably the section 55 of the tape 46 is translucent red and the section 56 is opaque black. The panel 36 is opaque black except for a transparent window 57 and indicia 58-60. The indicia correspond to conventional symbols used in the textile industry to indicate allowable ironing temperatures for various fabrics.

Abstract: 1297897 Presser foot MEFINA SA 24 May 1971 [2 June 1970] 16598/71 Heading D1G A presser foot comprising a sole plate 1 pivoted at 2 to a support 3 has a portion 8 suspended from the pivot 2 and retractable upwardly against the action of the spring 11. The spring 11 is disposed in a housing 10 in the retractable portion, the housing being suspended from the pivot pin 2 by slotted lugs 9 and the spring abutting the pin 2. The sole and the portion 8 may be of plastics material. Stops 13, 14 co-operate with the housing to limit its oscillation about the pivot 2.
