Abstract: This invention is a method for preparing 3,3 min -dinitrodiphenylether by use of m-dinitrobenzene as a raw material. Namely, 3,3 min -dinitrodiphenylether is prepared by a condensation reaction of m-dinitrobenzene with m-nitrophenol in dipolar aprotic solvents in the presence of a base, or a self-condensation reaction of m-dinitrobenzene in the dipolar aprotic solvents in the presence of nitrite or in the presence of m-nitrophenol and the base.

Abstract: Bis(3-nitrophenoxy) derivatives of aromatic or bridged aromatic hydrocarbons are derived from m-dinitrobenzene and dihydroxy derivatives of said hydrocarbons by a condensation reaction in dipolar aprotic solvents in the presence of bases. The bis(3-nitrophenoxy) derivatives obtained are successively reduced to afford bis-(3-aminophenoxy) derivatives. This is a new method for reacting the dihydroxy-derivatives with m-dinitrobenzene, and hence can prepare novel bis(3-aminophenoxy) derivatives such as 4,4 min -bis(3-aminophenoxy)biphenyl, 1-[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]-1,3,3-trimethyl-6-(3-aminophenoxy)indan, 6,6 min -bis(3-aminophenoxy)-3,3,3 min ,3 min -tetramethyl-1,1 min spirobiindan, and methyl substituted 2,2 min -bis[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane.

Abstract: Aromatic bismaleimides of formula (I) are new: where X is one of the groups (III) to (VI); R1 to R4 are H or methyl: (a) reaction of a diol of fromula HO-X-OH with 1.5-4.0 moles of m-dinitrobenzene in a polar aprotic solvent in the presence of 1.5-3 moles of an alkali metal (bi)carbonate, followed by hydrogenation over Pd in an organic solvent at 20-100 deg. C gives a diamine of formula (II): (b) the diamine (II) is reacted with 2-5 moles of maleic anhydride in an organic solvent (pref. an aliphatic ketone) at 0-120 deg. C to give a bismaleamic acid, which is cyclised with acetic anhydride (at least 2 moles) in an organic solvent in the presnece of an alkali acetate or tertiary amine and of a catalyst (0.05-1.1 moles= which is a phosphate, acetate, oxide, sulphate or carbonate of an alkaline earth metal, Fe(II), Fe(III), Ni(II), Mn(II), Mn(III), Cu(I), Cu(II), Co(II) or Co(III) (esp. Ni(OAc)2, Co(OAc)2 or MgO) at 20-80 deg. C.

Abstract: Prodn. of benzophenone or its deriv. Ar-CO-Ar (II) comprises treating 1,1-bis(aryl)-2,2,2 trichloroethanol (Ar)2C(OH)(CCl3) (I) with alkali. (Ar is phenyl opt. substd. with halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, phenoxy etc.). Benzophenone or its derivs. are useful as material or intermediate for various pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, dye stuffs and synthetic resins. Prior art required large amts. of AlCl3, chromic acid, and the like catalyst or oxidising agent which often causes corrosion and pollution problems. This process eliminates such defects.

Abstract: SPECIFICATION Title of the Invention Process for the Preparation of 4-Chlorobenzenesulfonyl Chloride A process for the preparation of 4-chloro-benzenesulfonyl chloride wherein chlorobenzene is reacted with chlorosulfonic acid in a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon in the presence of an alkali metal salt of a mineral acid and/or an ammonium salt of a mineral acid. After washing the resulting reaction mixture with water and separating the halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon layer, water is distilled off, together with -the halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon to obtain 4-chlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride in an anhydrous state. The anhydrous 4-chlorobenzene-sulfonyl chloride thus obtained can be converted into 4,4'-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone by reacting it with chlorobenzene in the presence of a catalytic amount of ferric chloride.
