    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as an intermediate of dyes, etc., easily, in high yield, by reacting a phenolic compound, a phenylenediamine compound and a cyclohexanone compound corresponding to said phenolic compound in the presence of a hydrogen-transfer catalyst under heating. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound is produced economically in an industrial scale, by the thermal reaction of (A) phenol or its nucleus-substituted derivative with (B) phenylenediamine or its nucleus-substituted derivative and (C) a cyclohexanone compound corresponding to the compound A in the presence of a hydrogen-transfer catalyst (especially palladium). The reaction may be started without adding the compound C to the reaction system, by using the compound A in excess, and converting a part of the compound A to the compound C in the compound B under hydrogen pressure. In either case, the molar ratio of the compound A to the compound B is preferably 2-20. After separating the titled compound from the heated mass, the compound A containing the by-produced compound C can be recycled to the reaction system.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair rinse composition excellent in feeling to user, having low irritancy and separating into two layers on appearance and having beauty. SOLUTION: This composition contains (A) a monoalkyl type quaternary ammonium represented by the formula (R1 is a 12-22C alkyl or alkenyl; R2 , R3 and R4 are each methyl or ethyl; X is a halogen), (B) a condensation product of a higher fatty acid with taurine, represented by the formula, RCONHCH2 CH2 SO3 M (R is an 8-18C alkyl or alkenyl; M is an alkali metal, an organic amine or a basic amino) and (C) water. In the composition, the molar ratio of the components (A)/(B) is (4/6) to (6/4) and total amount of the components (A) and (B) is 0.5-7wt.% based on the composition. An alkyltrimethylammonium chloride is exemplified as the compound of the formula in the component A. Hair rinse excellent in gloss, smoothness and combing property is obtained by using these components.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing a 1,3-dialkyl-2-imidazolidinone by which the mild reaction can be carried out at a relatively low temperature by using an aprotic polar solvent to afford the subject compound in high yield. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing a 1,3-dialkyl-2-imidazolidinone expressed by formula II (R is C2H5, C3H7 or C4H9) is to carry out the reaction at >=180 deg.C, preferably 200-300 deg.C temperature in the presence of an aprptic polar solvent in reacting an N,N'-dialkylethylenediamine expressed by formula I with urea and thereby producing the 1,3-dialkyl-2-imidazolidinone. N,N- Dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, sulfolane, tetrahydrofuran, etc., are used as the solvent; however, the desired 1,3-dialkyl-2-imidazolidinone prepared by the reaction itself is preferably used as the self-solvent from the sense of avoiding the reduction in yield and complicatedness in separation of the solvent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing nonylaniline in which the nonylaniline can be obtained in high selectivity. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing nonylaniline is to react nonylphenol with ammonia in the presence of a hydrogen-transfer catalyst, water and a catalytic amount of nonylyclohexanone and further react the nonylphenol with the ammonia while converting a part of the nonylphenol into the nonylcyclohexanone under pressure of hydrogen in the presence of the hydrogen- transfer catalyst and water.
