Abstract:
A method for producing input/output connections in a ceramic device and apparatus produced thereby is disclosed. The ceramic device can provide wraparound input/output connections. The method (200) can include first providing a plurality of ceramic layers (202) forming a via in at least one of the ceramic layers (204), filling the via with metalization (206), laminating the ceramic layers to form a multilayer ceramic laminate (208), scoring the laminate with lines that extend substantially through the via (210), cofiring the ceramic laminate and metalization (212), and cleaving the laminate along the scored line (214). A ceramic device using this method can provide a wraparound connection extending partially up the side thereof, which can be advantageous in many multi-layer applications.
Abstract:
A battery powered device (100) includes a battery (170) for powering the battery powered device (100) and a display (130) for presenting messages. The battery powered device (100) includes a light source (150) for illuminating the display (130) and a determiner (165) coupled to the light source (150) for determining whether the message is of a first type or a second type. A controller (120) drives the display (130) with a message and activates the light source (150) for a first time when the message is of the first type and for a second time, greater than the first time, when the message is of the second type.

The cell (10) includes a cathode (20), an anode (30) and an electrolyte (40) disposed therebetween. The method involves the preparation of the lithiated, transition metal oxide material in an inert environment. The materials are characterized by improved electrochemical performance, and an identifiable x-ray diffraction matter.
Abstract:
A communication system and method for a selective call transceiver (122) to automatically request deferment of transmission of messages received by the paging terminal (100) from a caller via a telephone network when the selective call transceiver (122) is turned off. The paging terminal greets the caller with a voice message from a user of the selective call transceiver indicating message deferment is active for the selective call transceiver. The deferred messages are stored in a message queue (218) of the paging terminal for a period that the selective call transceiver is off. When the selective call transceiver is turned on, the selective call transceiver automatically requests forwarding of messages from the paging terminal and, in response, the paging terminal transmits deferred messages.
Abstract:
An efficient distributed queuing random access method (Figs. 4A-4E) and network system (300) provide, in the medium access control layer in network with broadcast channels, for conserving reservation bandwidth and concomitantly providing immediate transmission access, wherein, prior to receiving a first time slot, a plurality of reservation slot parameters are initialized by a user.
Abstract:
A low power zero-IF selective call receiver has a local oscillator (106) that generates an injection signal for a first mixer (104) and a pair of quadrature phase related injection signals (122, 124) for a pair of second mixers (112, 114). The first mixer converts the received carrier signal (102) to an intermediate signal (108). A digital phase shifter/divider (116) coupled to the local oscillator (106) generates the pair of quadrature phase related injection signals (122, 124) at the frequency of the intermediate signal (108) which also equals the frequency of the local oscillator (106) divided by an integer greater than 1. The pair of second mixers (112, 114) coupled to the digital phase shifter/divider (116) converts the in and quadrature phase components (122, 124) of the intermediate signal (108) to respective in and quadrature phase baseband signals (126, 128).
Abstract:
An accumulator is provided which includes a plurality of summing circuits (24a-24h), a plurality of switches (32b-32h), and a control unit (20) for controlling the transmission of data generated by the summing circuits. Each summing circuit generates intermediate sums and includes a port for transmitting the intermediate sums. The switches are connected between the ports of the summing circuits. The control unit is programmable to operate the switches and enable the ports at various times, thus allowing the accumulator to be configured to perform any of a variety of summing operations.
Abstract:
A dielectric absorption compensation circuit (300) provides an equivalent and opposite impedance to a parasitic impendance of an external capacitive load (414). The dielectric absorption compensation circuit (300) reduces lock time in a phase lock loop circuit (400) which uses an RC filter (410), including the capacitive load (414).
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to control frequency deviation of a portable transceiver (PT) (122) utilizing a time-division-duplex (TDD) protocol for communicating with a base transceiver (116). The base transceiver (116) transmits (708) a first signal having first deviation levels (706). The PT (122) receives (802) the first signal, measures (808, 810, 824) it to derive estimates of the first deviation levels, and stores (826) the estimates in a memory (322). The PT (122) generates (828) a second signal having second deviation levels (830) controlled by control signal values (323), samples (832) the second signal to derive a second received signal, and appraises (902) the second received signal to derive estimates of the second deviation levels (830). The PT (122) compares (906) corresponding estimates of the first and second frequency deviation levels (830) to derive adjusted control signal values (908) for controlling the second deviation levels (830) to approximate the first deviation levels (706), and thereafter controls (914) the second deviation levels (830) in accordance with the adjusted control signal values (908).
Abstract:
A transceiver (125) for receiving messages and transmitting acknowledgments includes a receiver (365) for receiving a message and time information indicative of a first time slot, a display (400) coupled to the receiver (365) for presenting the message, and a monitor element (430) coupled to the display (400) for determining, at occurrence of the first time slot, whether the message has been presented. A transmitter (380) coupled to the monitor element (430) and the receiver (365) transmits, in response to occurrence of the first time slot, a message acknowledgment when the message has not been presented. When the message has been previously presented, a read acknowledgment, rather than the message acknowledgment, is transmitted to indicate both message reception and message presentation.
