    Abstract: A system and method for determining a position of a mobile wireless transceiver. A Doppler shift of signals transmitted from first and second satellites, respectively, relative to a base station is calculated. A first set of pseudo ranges of the first and second satellites, respectively, relative to the base station is also calculated. Satellite identification information, Doppler shift information, and the pseudo range information between the base station and the wireless transceiver is sent to wireless transceiver. The wireless transceiver use the information received from the base station to identify a second set of pseudo ranges between the wireless transceiver and the first and second satellites, respectively, at a time tx. The wireless transceiver sends the second set of pseudo ranges between the wireless transceiver and the first and second satellites, respectively, along with time information tx to the base station, in response to which, the base station calculate the position of the wireless transceiver.

    Abstract: At the mobile station the measured pilot energy of each pilot in the candidate set is iteratively compared against a threshold generated in accordance with the sum of the energies of the pilots in the active set. If the strongest pilot in the candidate set satisfies this threshold condition, it is added to the revised active set. A second iterative process is performed to determine whether a pilot should be deleted from the revised active set. The mobile station determines whether a change to the current active set is desirable by measuring the energies of the pilots in the active set and the candidate set, and dynamically adjusting the necessary thresholds based on its own estimation of the communication environment.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for simulating signal interference within a communication system, such wireless or cellular communication systems. The communication system is preferably of a type in which code division multiple access (CDMA) spread spectrum communication signals are used. The method for simulating signal interference power received by a base station receiver includes estimating a first composite signal power corresponding to the sum of signal power transmitted by a first set of simulated users located in a first cell. An estimate is also made of a first normalized date rate for transmission of the composite signal. A first interference signal is then generated at a power level determined on the basis of the first composite signal power and normalized data rate. In a preferred implementation, the first interference signal power is adjusted in accordance with an average power fluctuation arising as a consequence of closed loop power control. Further, a second composite signal power is determined by estimating the sum of signal power transmitted by a second set of simulated users located outside of the first cell. A similar estimate is made of a second normalized data rate at which this signal power is transmitted by the second set of simulated users. This allows the generation of a second interference signal based on the second composite signal power and normalized data rate. Generation of the first interference signal will typically involve synthesis of electrical noise over a predetermined frequency band. The power of the electrical noise is then adjusted in accordance with the product of the first composite signal power and the first normalized data rate.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficiently transmitting location assistance information to a mobile communication device over a control channel with a minimal impact on the capacity of the control channel. A position location server provides a difference between satellite locations which have been computed using Almanac data and then Ephemeris data. Sending only the difference between the locations and clock corrections computed using the two different data types, the total amount of information to be transmitted to a mobile communication device is significantly reduced. Furthermore, by providing rate of change information, the method and apparatus allows the location assistance information to remain valid for a relatively long time after it is has been received by the mobile communication device.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for sending and receiving information over different bandwidths using a shared baseband processor. The transmission method selects clock sampling frequencies, for example a first clock frequency (1 x F1), or a second clock frequency (k x F1), where k > 1. Digital information is processed using the selected clock sampling frequency and a baseband signal is generated. Regardless of the clock sampling frequency selected, the baseband signal may have the same number of subcarrier frequencies. The baseband signal is converted into a radio frequency (RF) signal having a data rate responsive to a selected clock frequency, and transmitted. More explicitly, a first baseband signal is generated having a first data rate in response to selecting the first clock frequency. A second baseband signal having a second data rate greater than the first data rate, may be generated in response to selecting the second clock frequency.

    Abstract: A method and system is provided for initial network acquisition by a first device that is assisted by a second device. Rather than scanning one or more frequency bands to discover local wireless network information, the first device may send a request for local wireless network information over a secondary communication interface (i.e., a communication interface not associated with the wireless network for which information is sought). A second device that may have previously obtained the requested network information (e.g., it may have joined or be communicating through the wireless network) may respond by sending the requested wireless network information to the first device. Upon receiving the wireless network information via its secondary communication interface, the first device may use it to acquire a communication service from the wireless network over a primary communication interface (i.e., different from the secondary communication interface).
