Abstract: PURPOSE:To control the variation of a gain of a height servo due to the deviation, etc., of the reflection rate of a disk. CONSTITUTION:Light from an auxiliary light source LED is reflected with the disk and is made incident on optical detectors 10a, 10b. Each output of optical detectors 10a, 10b is supplied to a differential amplifier 20 and an adder 50 and the output of the differential amplifier 20 becomes a height error signal. The height error signal is controlled by a variable gain amplifier 60 so as to be constant at a gain in accordance with the addition output of the adder 50. The height error signal controlled the gain is supplied to an actuator 2 controlling the distance with respect to the disk of a magnetic circuit Mg through a driving amplifier 30.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To attain the recording and reproduction of exact information by recording tracking sensitivity information in a disk as one piece of TOC information and reading the TOC information in order to control a suitable tracking. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 7 decides whether or not the information concerning to the gain of a tracking servo is present in the read TOC information. When the gain information of the tracking servo is not present, the tracking sensitivity is measured at the inner periphery and outer periphery of a disk 1, and the information of the tracking sensitivity obtained after the measurement is recorded in the disk 1 as the TOC information. That is, the CPU 7 moves a head 2 through a servo circuit 4 to the prescribed position of the inner periphery of the disk 1. Then, the tracking servo is turned OFF at the position, so that the optical tracking can be controlled, and the recording or reproduction of the exact information can be operated.

CONSTITUTION:Laser beams are driven intermittently while the temperature of a magneto-optical disc 1 is elevated to a Curie temperature or higher by the irradiation of laser beams, and a magnetic field is applied from head coils 32 and 33 only for a period when data can be recorded. When the temperature of the magneto-optical disc 1 is lowered to the Curie temperature or lower, currents are not made to flow through the head coils 32 and 33. Accordingly, currents are made to flow through the head coils 32, 33, thus reducing power consumption.

Consequently, according to the accurate temperature detection result of the recording medium 1, the write and read operation of the information signals are performed under the most suitable conditions.
