PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for judging signal attribute such as Japanese broadcast programs or foreign broadcast programs such as US. SOLUTION: A signal attribute judgment apparatus includes: an audio feature signal part detection means for detecting a feature signal part for satisfying a predetermined feature condition from a signal of audio information in an information signal including video information and audio information associated with the video information; and a video feature signal part detection means for detecting a feature signal part for satisfying a predetermined particular condition from a signal of the video information in the information signal. An attribute judgment means judges the signal attribute of the information signal from a detection output of the audio feature signal part detection means and a detection output from the video feature signal part detection means. SOLUTION: The information signal processing apparatus is provided with a recording medium identifying means for identifying a first recording medium as the recording medium to be reproduced; first reproducing means for reproducing the first recording medium; characteristic signal detecting means for detecting a characteristic signal from a signal to be reproduced; identification signal generating means for generating an identification signal from the characteristic signal detecting means; identification signal recording means for recording the identification signal in a second recording medium; second reproducing means for reproducing a prescribed identification signal from the second recording medium; and reproduction control means for controlling the first reproduction means so that it performs reproduction in response to a signal from the second reproducing means. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for realizing a processor by which a user can retrieve a scene desirably viewed in a recorded broadcast program or the like to the utmost, can grasp the retrieved contents in a short time and digestively reproduce the contents with a comparatively simple configuration. SOLUTION: The information signal processor consists of an information signal compression means that compresses a signal in a prescribed unit in a 1st information signal at a prescribed rate to obtain a 2nd information signal, a characteristic signal detection means that detects a characteristic signal of a prescribed part in the 2nd information signal, a signal arithmetic detection means that detects a signal at a pre-designated desired point of time with respect to the 1st information signal and having prescribed similarity or correlation with the 1st information signal through a prescribed arithmetic operation from the 1st information signal depending on the detection section from the characteristic signal detection means, and a reproduction control means that applies reproduction control to the 1st information signal for a prescribed period including the point of time of the signal detected by the signal arithmetic detection means. In this case, the 1st information signal is a video signal.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration in an image by avoiding the compression rate of the MPEG system from being decreased more than a prescribed rate in a data converter that converts an image signal subjected to compression processing by the DV system into an image signal of other data system such as the MPEG system and a signal processing system for a data processor that applies compression processing to the image signal and an audio signal processed with the MPEG system. SOLUTION: The information signal processor is provided with a signal detection means detecting that a prescribed information signal received from a prescribed input means is a signal of a 1st signal system, a signal conversion means that converts the prescribed information signal into a signal of a 2nd signal system by selecting a prescribed attribute among a plurality of attributes possible for setting, and a setting control means that controls the conversion means not to apply the prescribed attribute among a plurality of the attributes to a default setting as its conversion of the signal system when the signal detection means detects that the information signal received from the input means adopts the 1st signal system.

A system controller 59 compares a discriminated result of the input signal discriminating section 58 with the discriminated result of the reproduced signal discriminating section 57. And in accordance with the compared result, a magnetic tape is traveled to a prescribed recording region, and recording is performed.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save the capacity of a recording medium in which audio signals are recorded. SOLUTION: A series of audio signals (shown in Fig. A) is divided into prescribed time blocks a1, a2, a3,..., a mean level or power of the audio signals of each time block is detected and each block is discriminated to be a voiced time block or a silence time block depending whether or not each time block has a useful audio signal. The silence block is not recorded so that the time block is a substantially not recorded block (shown in Fig. B), and the silence time block in succession to the voiced time block is discriminated by identification data provided at recording or through detection at reproduction, and for example, a data interpolation time block ah where null data are interpolated for a prescribed period is formed to prevent a speech interval from being unnatural.
