Abstract:
An improved continuous large area polymer filter employs a single valve to control molten polymer flow into and out from at least two but preferably three or more filter assemblies. In a neutral position the valve apportions flow equally to each of the filter assemblies. When filters in any one of the assemblies becomes clogged and requires cleaning or replacement, the valve is repositioned to prevent flow into and out from the clogged assembly while continuing to apportion flow among the remaining assemblies. A small amount of polymer is bled from the selected assembly to effect depressurization and the assembly is removed, restored to function and replaced. The valve is repositioned to allow a slow bleeding of polymer into the restored assembly and the bleed valve is opened to allow air and air entrapped polymer to be removed from the assembly before returning it to service. When the bleed valve flow has stabilized the valve is once again repositioned to allow full flow into and out from the serviced assembly and to apportion flow to each assembly. The valve has mechanical stops to prevent flow from being blocked to all of the assemblies simultaneously and a shield is attached to the valve to prevent access to operating assemblies. The shape of the filter cavities is tapered toward the output end to reduce the volume of molten polymer entrapped stagnantly between the cavity and the filter therein.
Abstract:
A water filtering system for connection to at least one water supply to be filtered including a filter tank containing cartridge-type filter media with the tank being especially configured to provide an evenly distributed water flow through the filter media for efficient water filtration. The system further includes a special plumbing system and controls therefore for establishing a two stage filter cleaning operation wherein water is impingingly directed onto the filter media for flushing of the filter media and the filter tank in the first stage of the filter cleaning operation and water is directed through the filter media in a backwash direction in the second stage of the filter cleaning operation. The controls may be automatic for switching the system from water filtering operation to filter cleaning operation at pre-determined time intervals, or whenever the filter media becomes dirty, and for switching back and forth between the two stages of the filter cleaning operation whenever the system is in the filter cleaning operation.
Abstract:
A filter arrangement has two hollow, coaxial, cylindrical filter elements, one of which is closed at one end and the other of which is connected to a clean fluid outlet. The outsides of the filter elements are separated from each other by an intermediate ring. A three-way valve is operable by an operating member to connect an inlet for the raw fluid to either or both of first and second filter elements. A control member operates valves for opening and closing an outlet for dirty fluid is operated at the same time with the three-way valve, dependent on its position. Both filter elements can be used simultaneously for filtering and also flow can be reversed through either filter element.
Abstract:
An improved extracorporeal circuit blood filter of the type using filter media in the form of a cartridge wherein the improvement comprises an internal bypass directly through the cartridge. The bypass is actuated should the filter media become blocked.
Abstract:
Fluid filtration systems and methods for servicing thereof are disclosed. The fluid filtration system includes a filter cartridge, a fluid transfer pump, and a valve assembly that can be selectively operated and positioned to achieve a normal filtration mode of operation, a fuel drain mode of operation, and a water drain mode of operation. In the normal mode, the filter cartridge is in an installed position, the pump is rotated in a first direction, and the valve is placed in a first position. In the fuel drain mode, the filter cartridge is in a service position, the pump is rotated in a second direction, and the valve is placed in a second position. In the water drain mode, the filter cartridge is in an installed position, the pump is rotated in the second direction, and the valve is placed in the first position.

Abstract:
A rotary valve spindle for flow control in the head of a filter includes a unitary dual function seal that is carried by the spindle and seals against the inner surface of the filter head during spindle rotation between flow and no- flow positions. The dual function seal greatly simplifies manufacture and assembly of the valve.
Abstract:
A modular filter system using replaceable filter cartridges includes a mounting bracket for each filter cartridge and corresponding filter head that includes keyed attachment of the head to the mounting ring on the mounting bracket and modular attachment of the mounting bracket to the modular back plate. Back plates are also modular to permit assembly of a variety of multi-cartridge systems.
