Abstract:
The present invention relates to an improved sealing composition and method. The sealing composition uses near equal amounts by weight or volume of a pre-polymer and curative. The mixture is applied by a portable spray apparatus using a disposable mixing spray nozzle. For temporary sealing coatings using the present invention a releasing agent is applied to the surface to be sealed. The present invention is ideal to protect tubs, whirlpools, shower stalls, tile, marble, glass, metal, hardwoods, and other smooth non-porous surfaces. The resulting protective coat from the present invention is impenetrable to ladders, boots, sheet rock, mud, paint, dirt, metal pieces, rocks, gravel, sand, grime which might accompany work on or around the surface to be sealed and thus protected. The present invention also provides a means to avoid scratching, nicking, marring, chipping, staining, painting, and abrading the from these and a multitude of other external forces or objects. As a permanent coating, the present invention can guard against weather, water, sun damage, wind damage, or provide attributes specifically needed on certain surfaces such as improved traction for wet or water-exposed surfaces.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a method for permanently and decoratively enhancing a polyethylene surface of a preformed article. In this method, a decorative enhancement composition is created by blending particulate thermoplastic powder, a binder solid, and a colorant into a liquid carrier. The particulate thermoplastic powder bonds to the colorant, the binder solid promotes adhesion of the colored thermoplastic to the polyethylene surface until it can be bonded, and the liquid carrier facilitates the transfer of the colored thermoplastic to the polyethylene surface of the preformed article. The decorative enhancement composition is applied to the polyethylene surface. The deposited decorative enhancement composition and the interfacing polyethylene surface are heated sufficiently to incorporate the decorative enhancement composition into the polyethylene surface. The enhanced polyethylene surface is allowed to cure by removal of the application of heat. Upon curing, the decorative enhancement composition is permanently incorporated into the polyethylene surface enhancing the physical properties and the appearance of the preformed article. This invention also comprises a decorative enhancement composition for the permanent decorative enhancement of polyethylene surfaces of preformed articles consisting essentially of a dry weight ratio of 70 to 95 percent binder solid to 70 to 30 percent particulate thermoplastic powder combined with colorant, wherein colorant comprises 9 to 50 percent of the total dry weight of the binder, powder, and pigment, mixed with liquid carrier, wherein the liquid carrier comprises 20 to 90 weight percent liquid carrier.
Abstract:
Novel compositions and methods are provided for forming masks used in air brush painting. The masking compositions used in this invention are liquids as applied and are hardenable into a friable paint masking layer. The preferred compositions of this invention are comprised of a hydratable binder, such as plaster of Paris, an inert filler, such as calcium carbonate, and water. The amount of the filler is selected relative to the amount of the binder to substantially weaken and make friable the resulting hardened layer. In the method of this invention the composition is applied to the area of a substrate to be masked. The applied layer if desired is shaped with a tool to provide details in the resulting mask. The layer is then hardened to form a brittle friable masking layer directly adhered to surface of the substrate. The substrate is then airbrush painted. The mask is removed by fracturing the mask and removing the resulting particles.
Abstract:
A method for reducing the tendencies of small holes to become packed with particulate material during pack cooling. An organic substance is used to wholly or partially fill small holes prior to placing the part in the packed cooling material. The organic material decomposes during the packed cooling process.
Abstract:
A method of masking the threaded portion of a threaded fastener part to prevent adhesion of coatings comprising the steps of applying a film of a heat activated foaming polymeric material to the threaded portion of a threaded part prior to exposing the threads to a coating and heating the foaming material subsequent to the application of a coating thereto. The foaming material comprises a plastisol, preferably including a vinyl compound, which most preferably is polyvinyl chloride. The foaming material further comprises a blowing agent, preferably azodicarbonamide.

The commutating poles of vehicular-type d-c motors, for example for trolley buses or trolley cars, are made by winding, on edge, a copper strip, permitting the wound copper strip to resiliently, spring-like expand so that the individual spiral loops thereof will be slightly spaced from each other, and then exposing the copper strip in a fluidized bed to an insulating powder, for example polyethylene or polyurethane, which is subsequently cured in a hardening or sintering process.
Abstract:
A peelable bonded structure comprising a metal substrate and a polyolefin layer bonded to the substrate through a primer layer, wherein the primer layer is a composition comprising (A) a modified olefin resin having a carbonyl group concentration of 0.01 to 200 milliequivalents per 100 g of the olefin resin and (B) a coating film-forming base resin at an (A)/(B) weight ratio of from 0.1/99.8 to 70/30. The primer layer has in at least one first planar region thereof a multi-layer distribution structure having a resin concentration gradient in the thickness direction such that the modified olefin resin (A) is distributed predominantly in the portion of the primer layer contiguous to the polyolefin layer and the base resin (B) is distributed predominantly in the portion of the primer layer contiguous to metal substrate, and in at least one second planar region the modified olefin resin (A) is distributed in the portion of the primer layer contiguous to the polyolefin layer at a lower distribution ratio.
Abstract:
A crosslinked fluororesin-coated rotor manufacturing method is a method for manufacturing an annular outer rotor of an internal gear pump including the outer rotor, and an inner rotor, a side surfaces of the outer rotor being coated with a crosslinked fluororesin, an inner peripheral surface of the outer rotor not being coated with the crosslinked fluororesin, the method including: using an outer masking jig for covering the inner peripheral surface in a state where the side surfaces of the outer rotor are exposed; coating the outer rotor with an uncrosslinked fluororesin in a state where the outer masking jig is mounted to the outer rotor; and then irradiating the fluororesin with radiation in a state where the outer masking jig is removed from the outer rotor, to crosslink the fluororesin.

Abstract:
A method of masking a feature of a substrate using a fixture includes removably coupling a fixture to a first side of the feature of the substrate, the fixture including walls configured to abut sides of the feature and extend beyond a top surface of the feature when the fixture is removably coupled to the first side. The method further includes applying a masking material to the top surface of the feature. The method further includes removably coupling the fixture to a second side of the feature, the second side opposing the first side, the walls of the fixture configured to abut the sides of the feature and extend beyond a bottom surface of the feature when the fixture is removably coupled to the second side. The method further includes applying the masking material to the bottom surface of the feature while the fixture is removably coupled.
