Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector for pressurized air for a rigid syringe with a pair of ear parts. SOLUTION: A syringe 36 usually includes an ellipse flange 38. A connector 10 for pressurized air for the syringe is attached to the syringe 36 placing a narrow side of the flange 38 in between the ear parts 28 of a body 12. As a result, a seal 22 is inserted into an opening end of the syringe 36 to seal the open end. The connector 10 for pressurized air for the syringe is rotated while sealing the opening end of the syringe 36 to restrict the flange 38 between a plurality of ear parts 26 and a plane part 24. Compressed air is passed through an outer engaging part 16, a bore 20, and an inner engaging part 18 and guided into the syringe 36. When air pressure is applied on the syringe 36, the flange 38 is prevented from damage by helping separately bearing air pressure across the flange 38 by the relatively wide plane part 24 and the ear parts 24 accompanied with relatively soft pads 14, which can absorb any abnormal condition of forming a stress point. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handpiece tip to realize a simple connection between the handpiece tip and an infusion sleeve. SOLUTION: This handpiece tip has a seal, a raised ridge or snap lock and a stop. Such a construction allows an internally threaded infusion sleeve to be pushed onto the handpiece tip without threading. The raised ridge locks the infusion sleeve into a prescribed place. The seal prevents leakage from the connection. The stop prevents the infusion sleeve from being pushed too far onto the handpiece tip. The handpiece tip can be used with conventional internally threaded infusion sleeves. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple handpiece and a tip part capable of heating a solution internally used for practicing a liquefracture technique. SOLUTION: The tip part of a surgical handpiece has two coaxial tubes or channels which are attached in a main body. The tip part has one or more specific shapes for forming the fluid discharge to optimize the handpiece performance at various stages of an operational processing. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for using in an eye surgery in which a container for a fluid is combined with a line for flowing the fluid to a surgical hand piece for washing the patient's eye, and a method therefor. SOLUTION: A sensor 7 generates a magnetic field, and a detector 13 generates another magnetic field. A pulse is generated by the interaction of these two magnetic fields. The device and method measure the absolute position of a supporting part combined with the container, and adjust the height of the supporting part based on the timing of this generated pulse. A circuit which prevents the supply of a driving current and applies a holding current, or prevents the change in the height of the supporting part by generating a dynamoelectric force is also provided. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for optimizing a prescription for a laser ablation type cornea treatment or an ophthalmologic implantation. SOLUTION: The method is an actually measured correction prescription for a present patient having a related classification element, and contains a step receiving the actually measured correction prescription using a wavefront type determination method. It is a data base of a treatment result on a plurality of previously treated patients. Each of the patient treatment results has at least one related classification element, and the database provided with the wavefront determination type correction prescription before the treatment and a visual profile after the treatment is accessed. From the treatment result in the database, the average difference between the pre-treatment prescription and the post-treatment visual profile in at least some previously treated patients having the classification element common to the present patient is calculated. In the last, the present correction prescription for the patient is adjusted so as to correspond to the calculated average difference, and an optimum prescription is formed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method usable to prepare for proper selection and centering of an intraocular lens (IOL).SOLUTION: An image of an eye, which can be captured during pre-operative tests and provided to a program executable to calculate the refractive power and axis orientation of the IOL, is used to determine the location and orientation of the IOL. This produces a placement guide usable to properly determine the position and orientation of the IOL within the eye.
