    Abstract: High activity olefin polymerization catalysts based on organolithium compounds and transition metal compounds are disclosed. In one catalyst system an organolithium compound is employed in combination with titanium tetrachloride and the Li/Ti ratio is in the range of about 20 to about 50. In another catalyst system the organo lithium compound is combined with a rare earth metal halide. For best results these catalyst systems are employed at pressures of at least about 100 psi. In ethylene polymerization an ethylene partial pressure of at least about 100 psi is preferred.

    Abstract: A method for the conversion of C₃ and C₄ hydrocarbons to less saturated hydrocarbons, such as ethylene and propylene and particularly ethylene, includes contacting the feed hydrocarbons with mixed oxides comprising a major proportion of magnesium and a minor proportion of manganese, preferably under conditions which selectively convert the feed hydrocarbons to ethylene and ethane and particularly ethylene, including a temperature between about 625°C and 850°C. The method is preferably carried out in the presence of steam at a mole ratio of steam/hydrocarbon of less than about 10:1. Selectivity to ethylene and ethane and particularly ethylene is improved and the life of the catalyst, during which the desired selectivity is attained, is extended by adding a promoting amount of at least one oxide of calcium, barium, strontium, tin and antimony. Further improvement can be obtained by limiting the amount of bound or fixed sulfur in the catalyst.

    Abstract: Articles are blow-molded from a polyphenylene sulfide resin having a melt flow in a range of from about 1 to about 10 g/10 min., and preferably in a range of from about 4 to about 8 g/10 min. When filler materials such as mica are added, the upper end of the acceptable melt flow range is raised to about 15 g/10 min. By maintaining mold temperatures in a range of from about 250 DEG to about 400 DEG F., and preferably from about 275 DEG to about 325 DEG F., the polyphenylene sulfide material in the blow-molded article is provided with a semi-crystalline structure, and is dimensionally stable at temperatures of at least 500 DEG F. Filler materials are preferably provided in a range of from about 10 to about 20 weight percent.

    Abstract: 1,039,511. Bottle crates. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. Jan. 31, 1963 [Feb. 1, 1962; April 11, 1962], Nos. 3899/62 and 13940/62. Heading B8P. A thermoplastic bottle crate is moulded in one piece to have bottom, top, side, and end walls, 1, 2, 3, 4 respectively, and the bottles are separated by apertures 2A, with skirts 2B, in the top wall, and walls 5, 5A, 6 formed integrally with the bottom wall, parallel to the side walls. The walls 5, 5A, 6 have high points 12 at their intersections and lower points 11 therebetween, and run down into the bottom wall at their ends 13, see Fig. 4, At certain of the high points the walls connect with projections 8 depending from the top wall to form reinforcing struts, and these have holes 20 which assist drainage during washing of the crate, as do holes 19 in the bottom wall 1. The end walls 4 have hand holes 15 in recesses 18 and the walls 5A, adjacent the ends have low points 11 not so low as in the walls 5, and 6, to provide more strength. In a second embodiment, Fig. 7, the walls 5, 5A, 6 are absent and the bottles are spaced by ridges 36 surrounding flat square, or V-shaped, areas 37A level with the crate bottom. The skirts of the apertures in the top wall may be deeper and have vertical slits so that they grip the bottles more firmly. In further embodiments the bottle separators are projections of various kinds integral with the top and/or bottom walls. A preferred separator is shown in Fig. 16 and has a frusto-conical top portion and a cruciform lower part which provides support for the bottles. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 907,444.
