Abstract: Process for growing sprouts from seeds comprises circulating the water in which the seeds are germinated continuously for 8 hours so that the seeds are continually germinating in fresh water. The germinated sprouts are then repeatedly allowed to drain and stand fox approximately 4 - 8 hours and then soaked for approximately 15 minutes. For the first 48 hours the sprouts are lightly worked during the soakings by being separated by the user's fingers. Between 48 and 72 hours the sprouts are heavily worked and are submerged during the soaking cycle, and the floating husks are removed from the container in which the sprouts are soaked by skimming the container while the sprouts are submerged. Between 72 and 144 hours, in addition to the skimming, after each soaking the sprouts are removed from the container and the container cleaned. Also after 72 hours and 96 hours the sprouts in each container are split in approximately equal portions and each of the portions are placed in separate containers. Therefore, the sprouts germinated in a single container ultimately fills four containers by the time the sprouts are ready for harvesting so that the depth of the sprouts growing in a container remains relatively constant.

Abstract: 654,500. Pipe joints. GRUBB, R. G., and MORRIS, S. W. M. Oct. 6, 1948, No. 26097. [Class 99(i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A flexible pipe 17 having an electrical conductor 18 is connected to a metal pipe 26 or to the tubular stub of a junction-box or to a metal sleeve, the other end of which has a like connection to another flexible pipe, by a coupling nut 19 which clamps the flared end of the pipe 17 on to an olive 15 located in the tapered mouth of pipe 26. A sealing ring 29 is housed in a recess in the nut adjacent the flare of the pipe, as shown, or in a recess in the nut adjacent the cylindrical part of the pipe.

Abstract: 645,785. Conduits. GRUBB, R. G., and MORRIS, S. W. M. Oct. 6, 1948, No. 26095. [Class 36] A conduit for electric cables comprises a tube 11 of insulating material having one or more metal wires or ribbons 10 extending continuously therethrough and embedded in the inner surface of the conduit to provide an earthing connection exposed to the interior of the conduit. The conductor is embedded in the tubing by feeding the wires or ribbons continuously to an extrusion machine during the extrusion of the tubing. The conductor, which may extend longitudinally or helically along the tubing, may comprise a metal wire or ribbon or a wire mesh, and may have a serrated surface by which it is held in position within the tube. The tube may be made from natural or synthetic rubber or a synthetic resin.

Abstract: 123,558. Stewart, W. J., and Woolcock, J. Feb. 20, 1918. Concrete vessels.-In reinforced-concrete ships, the reinforcement consists of two parallel networks, the transverse members of which comprise two elements or bars a, b, spaced apart by inclined ties e, such transverse members being adapted to be ber.t to the section of the vessel without altering the spacing of the elements. The elements may be corrugated to permit alteration of length when bending. The longitudinals d, e are supported in the angles between the elements and the ties, as shown. The ties may all slope in the same direction, and they may be bent around the elements a, b. Or the reinforcement may be formed by slotting and expanding the light double-bulbed rolled section shown in Fig. 5.
