    Abstract: A process for the preparation of a fibre reinforced metal matrix composite comprising fibres embedded in a metal in which the process comprises forming a body with a layer of aligned fibres between at least two layers of metal foil and densifying said layers wherein the layer of aligned fibres comprises metal particles interposed between individual fibres, the metal particles being compatible with the metal foil. A preform for a fibre reinforced metal matrix composite is also claimed which comprises a resin and a layer of aligned fibres, the layer having metal particles interposed between adjacent fibres and the layer and particles being bonded together with the resin.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a synthetic zeolite-type material prepared from a reaction mixture containing: 1,3,4,6,7,9-hexahydro-2,2,5,5,8,8-hexamethyl-2H-benzo[1,2-C:3,4-C min -5,6-C sec ]tripyrolium trihydroxide or halide or its precursor or reaction product (hereafter also called the tripyrolium compound); and preferably tetraethylammonium hydroxide or halide or its precursor or reaction product. The zeolite-type material, designated SUZ-9 and suitable for use as an absorbent, catalyst or catalyst base, has, in its dehydrated organic free form, the empirical form m (M2/aO): XzOxz/2 : yYO2, where m is 0.5-1.5, M is an a valent cation; x is 2 or 3 and z is correspondingly 1 or 2; y is at least 2; X is Al, Ga, B, Zn or Fe; and Y is Si or Ge, and in its calcined hydrogen form an X-ray diffraction pattern including significant specified peaks substantially as shown in Table 1:

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for fire control comprising the use of a gas-liquid twin fluid spray nozzle. In one embodiment the spray nozzle comprises a mixing chamber (1) having a gas inlet (4) and one or more outlets (6) at opposite ends, two or more liquid inlets (7) between the gas inlet (4) and the outlets (6) and a mixing zone (11) between the liquid inlets (7) and the outlets (6). In another embodiment the spray nozzle comprises a mixing chamber having a plurality of gas inlets, liquid inlets and outlets, the inner surface of the mixing chamber being capable of aiding mixing of gas and liquid introduced through the inlets. The nozzles may be used in fixed, portable or semi-portable fire control systems.
