Abstract:
An anti-icing fluid suitable for ground treatment of aircraft, being a glycol-based, aqueous solution containing a hydrophobe-bearing, macromonomer-containing polymer thickener in an amount of less than about 5 weight %. Thickening occurs predominantly by association among hydrophobe groups. Thickening may be enhanced by addition of a surfactant or other materials which act as co-thickeners. Use of this thickened fluid does not adversely affect airfoil lift characteristics during takeoff, because the fluid exhibits shear thinning and readily flows off the aircraft surfaces when exposed to wind shear during the aircraft's takeoff run.
Abstract:
A continuous pelletizing system for pelletizing synthetic thermoplastic materials which includes:
(1) a melter/mixer for at least partially melting and mixing synthetic thermoplastic material; (2) a gear pump operatively associated with said melter/mixer for increasing pressurization of said melted synthetic thermoplastic material; (3) an independently controlled secondary mixer operatively associated with said gear pump or said melter/mixer including means for providing additional independent mixing of said melted synthetic thermoplastic material; and (4) a pelletizer operatively associated with said independently controlled secondary mixer or said gear pump for forming pellets of synthetic material.
Abstract:
The Figure of Merit of titanium-doped oxide crystals suitable for use as a tunable laser is enhanced by treating the article at a temperature of about 50 DEG C to 80 DEG C below the melting point of the crystal in an atmosphere containing at least about 20 volume percent hydrogen.
Abstract:
Polysaccharides, including hydroxyethyl cellulose, having alkyl-aryl hydrophobic substitution, provide latex compositions, such as paints, with improved rheology and stability. Improved processes for producing such polysaccharides are also provided.
