Provided are an on-channel repeater and method for increasing output of the on-channel repeater by removing feedback signals caused by low isolation of transmission/reception antennas. The on-channel repeater includes: a receiver for receiving RF signals and converting the RF signals into baseband signals; a subtractor for subtracting replicas of feedback signals from the received signal; an inverse channel estimator for estimating inverse of a reception channel and generating a filter tab coefficients; a first adaptive filter for compensating for channel distortion of the subtracted signal; a transmitter for converting the signals whose channel distortion is compensated into an RF signal and performing radio transmission; a down- converter for down- convert ing the RF signal converted by the transmitter into the baseband signal; and a replica generator for calculating replicas and feeding back the replicas to the subtractor. The present invention is applied to the on-channel repeater.
Abstract:
Provided is a hierarchical modulation apparatus capable of improving transmission performance of an OFDM transmission system through pilot insertion and a pilot array structure. In the OFDM transmission system having a base layer channel encoder, an enhancement layer channel encoder, and hierarchical modulator, the hierarchical modulation apparatus includes: a pilot insertion unit inserting pilots into an encoded enhancement layer signal sequence output from the enhancement layer encoder, the pilots having a correlation with a base layer signal sequence corresponding to the same sub-carriers as those of the encoded enhancement layer signal sequence; and a pilot size controller controlling sizes of the pilots received from the hierarchical modulator. Accordingly, by applying the hierarchical modulation to an existing DMB system, it is possible to minimize influence of channels to an existing service and increase a data transmission rate.

Disclosed is a system for providing an electronic program guide and a method of providing the same, the electronic program guide (EPG) being about a plurality of programs supplied through a digital broadcasting system, including the steps of receiving service information (10) transmitted from the digital broadcasting system, and extracting the EPG information (20) from the service information (10) to store the EPG information; analyzing a user's request (50) and extracting EPG information that meets the user's request from the stored EPG information to produce tailored EPG information; converting the tailored EPG information into speech EPG information (30); and reproducing the speech EPG information (30) as speech to provide users with the EPG information.

The present invention provides a gateway for transforming a terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) contents. A gateway for transforming a terrestrial DMB contents includes an ensemble transport interface (ETI) demultiplexing unit for dividing the terrestrial DMB contents having ETI frame format into a fast information channel (FIC) and a main service channel (MSC); a session description protocol (SDP) packet processing unit for converting the FIC into a SDP packet; a transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP) packet generating unit for generating a TCP/IP packet based on the SDP packet; a real-time transport protocol (RTP) packet processing unit for converting the MSC into a first RTP packet; a user datagram protocol/Internet protocol (UDP/IP) packet generating unit for generating a UDP/IP packet based on the RTP packet; and an IP output unit for transmitting the TCP/IP packet and the UDP/IP packet through an IP network.

Provided are a data service managing apparatus and method for a frequency band extension, a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) data server using the same, and a DMB receiving system for a broadband data service. The data service managing apparatus for the frequency band extension accommodates a broadband DMB data service by using a basic DMB transmission system having a predetermined basic frequency band and an additional DMB transmission system having an additional frequency band other than the basic frequency band. The apparatus includes: a band confirmation unit for confirming a frequency band used for each data service; and a data distributor for distributing service data to a system capable of processing the service data among the basic DMB transmission system and the additional DMB transmission system based on the frequency band confirmed by the band confirmation unit.

Provided is a method and apparatus for transmitting an metadata synchronized with audio/vidieo (AV) data on a satellite, terrestrial, cable or proprietary digital broadcasting network. The method includes the steps of : a) receiving an AV time stamp for the AV data; b) calculating a time stamp of the data, which is information on a time point when the data are to be presented in a user terminal, which will be shortly referred to as data time stamp hereinafter, based on the AV time stamp; c) generating sync metadata including the calculated data time stamp; and d) encoding the sync metadata and transmitting the encoded sync metadata.

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for transmitting/receiving electronics program guide (EPG) information in voice. The voice EPG information transmitting/receiving apparatus reduces the burden loaded on a receiver by creating a voice EPG document, which is a content, in advance in a broadcasting station system and provides the EPG information to users in a familiar voice or in both voice and graphics.

The transmitting system includes a broadcasting TS generator for generating a 2-D TS for a 2-D image and an auxiliary TS for auxiliary information necessary for realistic broadcasting of the 2-D image, and a transmitter for transmitting the generated auxiliary transport stream before a corresponding broadcasting time and transmitting the generated 2-D transport stream according to a corresponding broadcasting schedule.
