Portable beverage preparation devices for preparing a beverage from an ingredients containing capsule are disclosed and include a beverage brewing unit and beverage dispensing means that includes a safety outlet valve. Also disclosed are systems that include the beverage preparation devices and receptacles for use with the beverage preparation devices.

A beverage preparation device for preparing a beverage from an ingredients containing capsule includes a beverage brewing unit for receiving the capsule and preparing the beverage by means of injection of pressurized liquid into the capsule, and beverage dispensing means for dispensing the resulting beverage into a receptacle, wherein beverage brewing unit is designed for passing liquid through the capsule in a direction essentially opposite to gravity. Systems that include the beverage preparation device and methods of producing and using said device are also disclosed.

The invention relates to a method, capsule (2) and system for the preparation of a beverage in a beverage machine wherein the capsule comprises an enclosure (20) containing one or more beverage ingredients to be brewed, and whereint the capsule (2) comprises a discharge wall (3, 300, 310, 320, 330) that is positioned in the path of the brewed liquid and which comprises discharge means (100, 301, 311, 321, 331) configured to restrain the brewed liquid from being discharged from the capsule (2) or limit the liquid flow in case the pressure inside the enclosure (20) is below a predetermined value, and configured to enable the delivery of the brewed liquid in case the pressure exceeds said predetermined value, wherein the discharge wall (330) is made of a plastic material or comprises a plastic, paper or textile filter, and wherein the discharge means comprises at least one discharge opening (331) comprising a hole (332) with fixed diameter (d) being designed to be sufficiently small to create a watertight wall when brewing fluid is introduced without pressure, and brewed liquid is able to flow through the at least one hole (332) when the pressure exceeds the predetermined value.

An in-line heating device (1,2,3,4) for a liquid food or beverage preparation machine in which liquid is circulated through the heating device and then guided into a brewing chamber. This heating device comprises: a thermoblock with a metal mass (1) that incorporates an inlet, an outlet and a heating chamber extending therebetween to form a passage for guiding said liquid circulating through said mass, the mass being arranged to accumulate heat and to supply heat to the liquid; and one or more electric components (60,70,75) that are rigidly secured onto or into the thermoblock and that are connected to a printed circuit board (4) and/or a flex-print (4') arranged to control the thermoblock. The electric components are rigidly connected to the printed circuit board and/or flex-print, in particular via rigid connector pins or blades or rigid plug and socket members.

One of these brewing unit assemblies (2,3) can be movedor telescoped out or through this casing for inserting/removing the ingredient capsule andretracted into the outermost casing for bringing the brewing unit into its capsule extraction configuration.

The present invention proposes a method for providing a rubber-elastic sealing member onto a capsule (1) intended for producing a beverage in a beverage production device, wherein the capsule has a body portion (3) having a side wall (3a) and a flange-like rim portion (2), wherein the rim portion (2) extends from the side wall (3a) of the body portion (3), the method comprising the steps of : - applying an uncured sealing composition (4) in a liquid or viscous state onto the rim portion (2) of the capsule (1), - heating said applied sealing composition (4) such that the sealing composition at least partially migrates towards the side wall (3a) until it reaches the side wall, and - curing the sealing composition (4) after the migration towards the side wall (3a).

A machine for preparing liquid food or beverage from a beverage or food ingredient contained in a capsule or pod, comprises: a liquid food or beverage preparation unit (2) arranged to receive capsules or pods for use and evacuate capsules or pods upon use; a housing (9) having an opening (5') leading into a seat (5) to which capsules or pods are evacuated from the preparation unit; and a receptacle (30) having a cavity (30') forming a storage space for collecting capsules or pods evacuated to the seat into the receptacle to a level of fill. The receptacle is insertable into the seat for collecting capsules or pods and is removable from the seat for emptying the collected capsules or pods. The prepration machine further comprises means to inhibit jamming of the receptacle at removal from the seat when the level of fill in the receptacle extends above the opening of the housing.
