Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the collapsion and abrasion loss of the electrode end and prolong its endurance life by constituting the electrode for spot welding machines by the composite material of copper or alloy composed primarily of copper and carbon fibers. CONSTITUTION:The electrode used for spot welding machines is constituted by the composite material of Cu or alloy such as Cu-Cr, Cu-Be, Cu-Cr-Zr, Cu-Ag, and carbon fibers. In this case, the volume contents of the carbon fibers with respect to the Cu alloy are made 1-30% and the diameters of the carbon fibers about 3-15 micron. The carbon fibers are let to exist only in the end part 2b of the electrode, or in the lengthwise direction of the electrode. Or the short fibers of the carbon fibers are let to exist in the end parts 2c, 2d of the electrode in the lengthwise direction of the electrode or random in the transverse direction of the electrode. The collapsion and abrasion loss of the electrode end upon use occur less and electrode has a longer life.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the thermal dimensional stability of the captioned material without degrading various characteristics such as conductivity, heat conductivity and strength by disposing the length direction of carbon fibers of the specific modulus or higher in parallel to the plate-form face of the carbon fiber composite metal material and orientating to the random direction. CONSTITUTION:A plate form carbon fiber composite metal material 1 has the laminate structure of the layers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 comprising disposing the carbon fibers 9 of not less than modulus 30t/mm aligned in sheet form in one direction as reinforcing fibers into, e.g., copper 8, as a matrix metal, in such a manner that the directions of the lengths of said carbon fibers 9 are, e.g., 0 deg., 30'', 60 deg., 90 deg., 120 deg., 150 deg. respectively with respect to the length direction of the material 1. Namely, the fibers 9 are so disposed as to be substantially parallel to the plate-form face of the material 1. The material 1 is produced by crossing and laminating the copper plated fibers 9 which are aligned to sheet form in one direction, at a desired angle, then binding the fibers 9 to themselves by the copper through heating and pressing.
