Abstract: A method for manufacturing a composite material which includes carbon material in a matrix metal by first applying tetraisopropyltitanate to the carbon material so as to wet it, next drying the carbon material which is wetted with the tetraisopropyltitanate, and then combining the carbon material with the matrix metal. This drying may be done by heating up the carbon material which is wetted with the tetraisopropyltitanate to a temperature of 50 DEG C. to 200 DEG C. in the atmosphere. The tetraisopropyltitanate may be dissolved in ethanol when it is being applied to the carbon material. The matrix metal may be a metal selected from the group consisting of aluminum, magnesium, aluminum alloy, and magnesium alloy.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase carbon density and permit a long time use by a method wherein a mixture of carbon fiber and resin is shaped into the form of an electrode, such shaped product is thereafter baked to carbonize the resin, the resulting electrode is impregnated with resin and baked to carbonize the impregnated resin and this carbonizing step is repeated. CONSTITUTION:The material to be dehydrated is placed between an anode (f) and a cathode (f) facing each other and subjected to compressive dehydration by pressing a compression diaphragm (e) behind the electrode and, at the same time, to electroosmotic dehydration by applying D.C. from behind the electrode. The electrode in this device is formed by a method wherein a mixture of carbon fiber and resin (e.g. polyester) is shaped into the form of an electrode, thus shaped product is baked to carbonize the resin, the resulting electrode is impregnated with phenol resin or the like and baked to carbonize the impregnated resin and such carbonizing step is repeated once or a plurality of times to increase the carbon density. As a result, this method provides a high strength and density and reduces the attrition effect on the electrode accompanying the application of current thereto and, therefore, the electrode can be used for a long period of time and the economics of electroosmotic dehydration can be enhanced with respect to waste liquors and sludge.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To generate the required temperature distribution at the time of heating by changing the filling quantity of carbon fibers or changing the types of the matrix carbon in the thickness direction or in the preset direction on the surface. CONSTITUTION:A larger current flows in a heater as the filling quantity of carbon fibers is increased. If the type of matrix carbon differs, the current value is changed. Heaters 1a and 1b with different patterns or alignment states of carbon fibers of different types of the matrix carbon are used, a region where the current easily flows and a region where the current hardly flows are properly distributed in the thickness direction or in the preset direction on the surface. The required temperature distribution can be thereby applied, or it can be eliminated on the contrary.
