    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance photoelectric conversion efficiency by using an insulation layer comprising resin and a spacer between transparent electrodes. CONSTITUTION:An aluminum electrode 100, an n-type polycrystalline silicon 101, a p-type polycrystalline silicon 102, an ITO transparent electrode 103, an insulation layer 104, an ITO transparent electrode 105, an n-type amorphous silicon 106, an I type amorphous silicon 7, a p-type amorphous silicon 108, a transparent electrode 109 and a translucent protection layer 110 are formed one after another, thereby producing a tandem structure between a pn junction cell of polycrystalline silicon and a pin junction cell of amoorphous silicon. An inorganic metal compound is used for the insulation layer 104. The adopted metal compound is not subjected to any restrictions, if it is an insulation compound, but a metal oxide is more preferable. More specifically, titanium oxide, zirconium oxide and lead oxide or the like may be cited as a desirable material. This construction makes it possible to produce elements whose photoelectric conversion efficiency is high.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a lightweight optical resin excellent in optical properties, useful for optical use such as spectacle lens, by radical copolymerization between a compound of specific structure and a compound having in the molecule radical-polymerizable functional groups. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin can be obtained by radical copolymerization between (A) a compound of formula I (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is 1-7C saturated hydrocarbon including methyl; m is 1-3; n is 0 or 1; X is O or S), pref. a compound of formula II (R3 is n-propyl, isopropyl, etc.) and (B) a compound having in the molecule at least two radical-polymerizable functional groups, pref. a compound of formula III (R4 is H or methyl; p is 0 or 1; q is 2 or 3; R5 is CH2, COOCH2 or OCO). The component A is pref. 4-t-butylstyrene, while the component B is pref. divinylbenzene, and it is preferable that a monomer composition comprising 20-90wt.% of the component A and 10-80wt.% of the component B be put to radical copolymerization.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a sulfur-contg. optical resin having a high refractive index, a high Abbe number, and an excellent light resistance by radical-polymerizing a monomer mixture contg. a specific sulfur-contg. methylstyrene deriv. CONSTITUTION:A mercaptan compd. of formula I (wherein m and n are each 0-3) is reacted with a halogenated methylstyrene or a halogenated methyl-alpha- methylstyrene in the presence of an alkali to give a compd. of formula II (wherein R1 is H or methyl). A monomer mixture contg. at least 5wt.% the compd. of formula II is radical-polymerized to give a sulfur-contg. resin. Pref. examples of a monomer used with the compd. of formula II in the monomer mixture are a (meth) acrylic compd., a styrene compd., and acrylonitrile. The resulting resin is suitable for an ophthalmic lens, a coating material, etc., and gives an optical article excellent in surface characteristics when a hard coating film is formed on the surface of the resin.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the optical transmission body which substantially prevents the phase sepn. of a polymer and has excellent transparency by mixing two kinds of specific monomers, molding the mixture to a fiber shape by preliminary polymn. and polymerizing the monomers while selectively volatilizing the unpolymerized monomers from the surface of this molding. CONSTITUTION:The monomer mixture prepd. by mixing >= 2 kinds of the monomers varying in refractive index, a polymn. initiator and various polymn. compds. is polymerized to form the prepolymer in which the monomers remain. The monomers which are the same in polymerizable functional groups and have >= 20 deg.C difference in the b.p. at 760 mm Hg are used. The monomers are molded to the fiber shape. While the unpolymerized monomers are selectively volatilized from the molding surface, the entire unpolymerized is polymerized. The optical transmission body having the excellent transparency is produced in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the plastic spectacle frame having sufficient rigidity, flexural resistance, impact resistance, and solvent resistance while the spectacle is slim by constituting the frame of a polyphenylene sulfide resin compsn. CONSTITUTION:The spectacle frame is formed of the polyphenylene sulfide resin compsn. An alpha-olefinic polymer is preferably incorporated into this resin compsn. The alpha-olefinic polymer refers to polymers consisting of alpha-olefins, such as ethylene, propylene, butene-1, isobutene, pentene 1, 4-methyl pentene-1 and hexene-1, or the copolymers thereof and further the copolymers formed by copolymerizing these alpha-olefins and other copolymerizable monomers are included therein. The spectacle frame having the excellent mechanical strength, flexural property, impact property, and solvent resistance is obtd. in this way.

    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I (R1 is H or methyl; m is 1-4), formula II (R2 is R1; n is 0 or 1) and formula III (R3 is R1). USE:Useful for resins and high refractive-index plastic lens. PREPARATION:A divalent mercaptan compound of formula IV synthesized according to the reaction formula is reacted with a (meth)acrylic halide in the presence of an alkali such as a metal hydroxide or a tertiary amine to obtain a compound of formula I. By adding an initiator used in radical polymerization generally, i.e. a peroxide or an azo-based initiator in an amount of 0.001-5 pts. wt. based on 100 pts. wt. compound of formula I and then heating the resultant mixture or applying light thereto, the compound of formula I is polymerized and a resin excellent in transparency is obtained. By adding another monomer except the compound of formula I thereto in the above-mentioned polymerization, a copolymerization, a copolymerization can be carried out.
