Abstract:
The present invention relates at least in part to devices which are capable of indicating the presence of moisture. Embodiments of the present invention involve the provision of a solid dispersion of a color-forming material in a hydrophilic polyurethane material. In particular, although not exclusively, the present invention relates to devices comprising foam, e.g., hydrophilic polyurethane foam and a color former. Also included in the embodiments of the present invention are methods comprising the use of the devices, and other subject matter.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed of dispersing conductive particles within a polymer. The method includes the steps of providing dry polymer particles, adding conductive material to the dry polymer particles to coat the dry polymer particles, and hot melt pressing the coated polymer particles.
Abstract:
A resin formed body 10 having a surface in which hydrophobic fine particles 11 are distributed, the hydrophobic fine particles having a BET specific surface area of not less than 300 m2/g. Despite the hydrophobic fine particles are added in a small amount, the resin formed body exhibits a high water-sliding property and can be used also in the form of a film and a bottle.
Abstract:
Improved superhydrophobic and/or super-oleophobic multi-layer coating compositions or treatments having increased durability and abrasion resistance, the compositions having a bottom layer with solid particles possessing high abrasion resistance and a top layer with particles imparting the superhydrophobic and/or super-oleophobic properties, wherein the bottom layer particles are significantly larger and significantly more abrasion-resistant than the top layer particles, such that portions of the bottom layer particles are exposed on the surface when part of the top layer is abraded, thereby creating an effective contact surface that significantly reduces further abrasion of the top layer without significantly reducing the superhydrophobic and/or super-oleophobic properties.

Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a flame retardant composition comprising sulfonated polyolefin and a SO2-scavenging material and/or a flame retardant material that is not a sulfonated polyolefin. Also disclosed is a flame-resistant composite comprising a host material in which is incorporated sulfonated polyolefin as a flame retardant composition. Further disclosed are methods for producing the flame retardant composition and flame-resistant composites.
Abstract:
A superabsorbent having surfaces complexed with polyvalent metal ions and which contains at least one phosphonic acid derivative, and the molar ratio between polyvalent metal and phosphonic acid derivative is at most 1.2/n, where n is the number of phosphonic acid groups in the phosphonic acid derivative. The superabsorbent exhibits good stability against discoloration and a surprisingly low caking tendency without any significant impairment of its performance properties.
Abstract:
Methods for the preparation of polymer-templated core-shell nanoparticles include the steps of (a) preparing a cationic polymeric core material comprising polymeric micelles, and (b) coating the core material with a silica-comprising shell by depositing the shell onto the polymeric micelles from at least one silica precursor to form the core-shell nanoparticles. Compositions which include the core-shell nanoparticles are adapted to facilitate controlled delivery of at least one active agent into a system in response to controlled changes in the pH of the system.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition suitable for forming an optical coating, the composition comprising core-shell nanoparticles, wherein said nanoparticles comprise: (a) core material comprising polymer; and (b) shell material comprising metal oxide.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a fluoropolymer tape having an electrically conductive surface. More specifically, the present invention is directed to a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape and method for producing an electrically conductive tape by blending vapor-grown carbon fiber or carbon nanotubes or combinations of both with PTFE.
