Abstract:
To provide a rope which is light in weight and flexible per se, resistant to invasion of sand granules and the like into strands thereof, and less prone to suffer fiber breakage caused by the sand granules nor to suffer per se inadvertent breakage under a small tensile load. The rope includes: a core material formed by paralleling, twisting or braiding a plurality of yarns; and a filter material that covers a periphery of the core material and is comprised of a tubular woven fabric formed by weaving warp yarns and weft yarns.
Abstract:
There is provided a high-tensile synthetic fiber rope having a low percentage elongation, the rope dramatically improving the strength utilization rate of the tensile strength of the synthetic fibers, and ensuring the percentage elongation approximately the same as the percentage elongation of the synthetic fibers used in the rope. The synthetic fiber rope includes a plurality of strands twisted or braided together, each of the strands including: a tubular woven fabric woven with warp and weft yarns made of synthetic fibers; and a core material disposed in the tubular woven fabric, the core material being constituted by a plurality of parallel-bundled yarns made of the synthetic fibers in the tubular woven fabric.
Abstract:
A spliced rope apparatus and a method of forming the same are disclosed. The apparatus has a first rope including a first plurality of strands and a second rope including a second plurality of strands. The apparatus also has a splice connecting the ropes and defined by the first and second pluralities of strands. The splice has a spiral section including a first pair having strands of the first plurality of strands that are positioned proximate each other. The first pair extends helically and the strands of the first pair together pass under a plurality of picks defined by the second plurality of strands and together pass over a remainder of the second plurality of strands. The splice also has a tuck section in which at least some of the first plurality of strands extend longitudinally to pass under and over sequential picks defined by the second plurality of strands.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a hybrid cord comprising an inner layer (1) in steel cord, an intermediate layer (2) in a high module and high toughness fibre and an outer layer (3) in a Polyolefin fibre. The present invention also refers to its application in an 8 (4x2) cords braided hybrid cable or any other type of hybrid cable presenting another construction, in braided or twisted cables.
Abstract:
A motorcycle tire comprises: a toroidal carcass (6) comprising two carcass plies (6A,6B) of cords arranged at an angle of from 20 to 80 degrees with respect to the tire circumferential direction; and a band (7) comprising at least one ply (7A) of at least one helically wound cord disposed radially outside the carcass (6). The band cord is made of steel filaments of 0.08 to 0.20 mm diameter twisted together into a L x M x N structure. The band cord has a low tensile elastic modulus range and a high tensile elastic modulus range, wherein an inflection point between the low tensile elastic modulus range and the high tensile elastic modulus range lies between 2 % elongation and 7 % elongation of the cord, and a tensile force required to cause 2% elongation of the band cord is not more than 60 Newton.

Abstract:
A hoist rope (18) for an elevator is formed from synthetic, non-metallic materials. The hoist rope (18) includes a plurality of load-carrying strands (28) with each strand (28) encased within a coating layer (32). The coating layers (32) provide protection against wear and provide sufficient lubricity to permit relative movement of the strands (28) to equalize loading on the strands (28). The plurality of strands (28) are surrounded by a jacket (34). The jacket (34) provides sufficient traction with a traction sheave (24), transfers traction loads to the strands (28) while permitting movement of the strands (28), and provides a flame retardant characteristic to the hoist rope (18). In one embodiment of a passenger conveyor system (10), the hoist rope (18) is engaged with a traction sheave (24) having a sheave liner (36). The material for the jacket (34) and sheave liner (36) are selected to optimize the coefficient of friction between the hoist rope (18) and traction sheave (24).

Abstract:
A method of wear detection of a coated belt or rope includes connecting a wear detection unit to one or more monitoring strands and/or cords of a coated belt or rope. The coated belt or rope includes one or more baseline strands and/or cords exhibiting a first change in electrical resistance as a function of bending cycles of the belt or rope and one or more monitoring strands and/or cords exhibiting a second change in electrical resistance as a function of bending cycles of the belt or rope, greater than the first change in electrical resistance. An electrical resistance of the one or more monitoring strands and/or cords is measured via the wear detection unit. Using at least the measured electrical resistance of the one or more monitoring strands and/or cords, a wear condition of the belt or rope is determined.
