A transmission device and receiving device for providing high-quality multimedia services in a digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) transmission system is provided. The transmission device separates input multimedia contents into a base layer elementary stream and an enhancement layer elementary stream, encodes the base layer elementary stream and the enhancement layer elementary stream, transforms the base layer elementary stream and the enhancement layer elementary stream into a base layer SL packet and an enhancement layer SL packet, transforms the base layer SL packet and the enhancement layer SL packet into a base layer PES packet and an enhancement layer PES packet, and multiplexes the base layer PES packet and the enhancement layer PES packet according to a base layer elementary stream and an enhancement layer elementary stream and outputs a base layer TS packet and an enhancement layer TS packet.

Provided are a DMB receiving portable apparatus for human body communication, a DMB transmitting method thereof, and an HMD apparatus and method for DMB reception using human body communication. The digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) receiving portable apparatus for human body communication includes: a DMB receiver adapted to perform DMB Rx signal processing on a DMB signal to convert the DMB signal into an audio/video signal, and transmit to a transmission electrode an intermediate frequency (IF) band broadcast signal or a transmission stream (TS) generated in the DMB Rx signal processing; and the transmission electrode adapted to apply the IF band broadcast signal or the TS to the human body as a DMB signal for human body communication.

Provided are a data service managing apparatus and method for a frequency band extension, a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) data server using the same, and a DMB receiving system for a broadband data service. The data service managing apparatus for the frequency band extension accommodates a broadband DMB data service by using a basic DMB transmission system having a predetermined basic frequency band and an additional DMB transmission system having an additional frequency band other than the basic frequency band. The apparatus includes: a band confirmation unit for confirming a frequency band used for each data service; and a data distributor for distributing service data to a system capable of processing the service data among the basic DMB transmission system and the additional DMB transmission system based on the frequency band confirmed by the band confirmation unit.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for updating a mobile terminal which is used in a vehicle, preferably in a vehicle of the public transport system, for the purpose of timetable information, fare determination and ticketing. The aim of the invention is to improve the updating of such a terminal. To this end, data are transmitted by a central computer (server) to a computer (client) located in the vehicle in a location-independent manner. In order to update the data stored in the terminal, the terminal is linked with the client and updated data are transmitted from the client to the terminal. The invention also relates to a system for updating of a mobile terminal.

Provided is a method and apparatus for providing local broadcasting in a digital multimedia system. The apparatus receives a first transport stream broadcasted from a main broadcasting system, extracts a main broadcasting stream from the first transport stream, and is provided with a local broadcasting stream corresponding to data for a local broadcasting service. Further, a first layer signal and a second layer signal are generated according to a predetermined format by respectively multiplexing the main broadcasting stream and the local broadcasting stream. Information for notifying that there is data for a local broadcasting service is included in the first layer signal. The first layer signal and the second layer signal are hierarchically modulated and are transmitted through a different frequency bandwidth from that through which the first transport stream is transmitted.

A broadcasting mobile terminal communication method and the broadcasting mobile terminal are disclosed. The method includes displaying a list of broadcast files stored on the terminal, in which at least one of the broadcast files is associated with broadcast related data stored on the terminal, and the broadcasting related data allows a user to obtain additional information about the at least one broadcast file. The method also includes selecting a broadcast file that is associated with broadcast related data, and connecting to an entity that provides the additional information about the at least one broadcast file.

A device and method are provided for processing multimedia broadcast-related events in a portable terminal, and include a memory for storing character UI images according to multimedia broadcast-related events, an event collection section for collecting the multimedia broadcast-related events generated in the portable terminal and for generating event messages for discriminating the generated multimedia broadcast-related events, an agent control section including a plurality of specialists for processing the multimedia broadcast-related events, the agent control section determining specialists corresponding to the event messages, selecting and outputting character UI IDs corresponding to the multimedia broadcast-related events of the determined specialist, and processing feedback information on the corresponding events according to the feedback infonnation of a user, and an agent expression section for outputting character images and texts which correspond to the multimedia broadcast-related events and the feedback information.

Provided are a method and apparatus for providing an Internet Protocol Datacasting (IPDC) service. The IPDC service providing apparatus includes a data input unit generating an IP packet and signaling information of the IP packet; a packet generation control unit determining a type of an Internet Protocol Data Group (IPDG) packet that is to be generated by encapsulating the IP packet, on the basis of characteristics of the IPDC service; an IPDG packet generation unit generating an IPDG packet according to a data type of the IP packet, and generating an IPDG packet for the signaling information of the IP packet; a transfer stream packet generation unit generating the IPDG packet as a transfer stream packet; and a transfer unit transmitting the transfer stream packet. Accordingly, it is possible to provide an IPDC service while efficiently using a bandwidth, in a Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) system.
