Abstract:
A non-contaminating application of a medical catheter into a body canal, in particular a urethra catheter, and of the kind provided with a friction-reducing surface coating, is effected by placing the catheter in a packaging designed as an applicator and composed of two essentially rectangular plastic foil blanks (1, 2) which are joined in essentially linear peeling zones (3-6) extending along their edges, the catheter (9) being placed with its distal insertion end (10) positioned opposite a predetermined first zone (6) of the edge joint. By the application, the walls (1, 2) are separated gradually and completely in peeling zones (3-6) in the direction away from the first zone (6) during simultaneous insertion of the catheter (9).
Abstract:
A device (1) suitable for use in closing an incision in a body in connection with autopsy comprises at least one flexible sheet of material (2) with two rows of mutually cooperating closing means (7, 8) being present on each side of the incision trace and allowing the incision to be made after adhesive attachment of the device to the body. The sheet of material (2) comprises a portion (C) with an outwardly extending flap portion (19, 20) on each side of a line corresponding to the centre line of the body, and a portion (B), the side lines of which substantially converge towards the line corresponding to the centre line of the body in direction towards the neck portion (C). After closing of an incision by means of the device a further sheet of material may possibly be adhesively attached for covering the incision area and possibly the closing means.
Abstract:
A dressing for dosing one or more medicaments and comprising at least one medicament containing layer (2, 2a, 2b) and a barrier layer (1, 1a, 1b) arranged between the medicament containing layer and the release face (6, 6a), said barrier layer consisting of a continuous hydrophobic phase and a discontinuous hydrophilic phase which is dispersed therein and which is water soluble or water swellable. Desired medicament release rates and release profiles within very wide limits may be obtained with the dressing.
Abstract:
A dressing comprising a skin friendly pressure-sensitive continuous or discontinuous adhesive layer (2), which is coated on one side with a non-adhesive flexible polymer film (1a) and which is optionally coated on the other side with a removable release layer (3), said polymer film (1a) consisting of an uppermost layer (4) of a material which is relatively hard, and a lowermost layer (5) of a material which is relatively soft, said lowermost layer (5) being thicker than the uppermost layer (4). The dressing has a low surface friction and a good flexibility.
Abstract:
A urinary incontinence pad for females comprises at least one comparatively flat cushion-shaped absorption body placed between a liquid-impermeable barrier layer on the underside and a liquid-dispersive tissue layer on the upper side and surrounded by a cover of nonwoven fabric material. The absorption body, the liquid-dispersive layer thermoplastically bonded thereto and the barrier layer may as a unitary structure (6) be folded into a configuration of an inverted pleat in which a longitudinal interspace between the top layers (11, 12) facing the user operates as a drainage channel (13) to a subjacent coherent backing layer (10). The absorption body contains a uniform distribution of superabsorbent material and an addition of thermoplastic fibers to obtain a reinforced network structure and said thermoplastic bonding of the liquid-dispersive layer. The product may include a number of absorption bodies with varying concentration of superabsorbent material and such designs may as internal liquid transfer layers include a plane non-folded body of cellulose fibers without superabsorbent material.
Abstract:
A male absorbing incontinence guard comprises a drop collector having a lower and an upper wall part (1, 2) for arrangement below and above the penis, respectively, the lower wall part (1) having a shorter length than the upper wall part (2), and with a free edge (3) defines an opening. Each wall part (1, 2) comprises an absorbing body (4, 5) and, fastened thereupon, a liquid-tight barrier sheet (6, 7). The barrier sheets (6, 7) in the two wall parts (1, 2) extend outside the respective absorbing bodies (4, 5) and are sealingly joined with each other along the side edges (12, 13) and the bottom of the drop collector, whereas the barrier sheet (6) in the lower wall part does not extend beyond the free edge (14) of the absorber body (4) in this wall part. In each of the wall parts the barrier sheets and the absorber bodies may be formed as integral bodies which for the positioning of the sheath form are folded in over themselves at the bottom of the sheath. The incontinence guard may be manufactured in that absorber bodies (27) punched in one piece from a web (28) of absorbing material are positioned across a web (24) of barrier sheet whereupon the web of barrier sheet (24) is folded about a longitudinal folding line (34) before the sealingly connection of the edges of the wall parts (1, 2) and edge cutting of the drop collector.
Abstract:
An elastic sheath-like device (1) in the shape of a contraceptive or urinary condom or a bandaging product is attached to an applicator (3) comprising a proportionately stiff, thin-walled ring-shaped member (8) with a short axial length. A preferably up-rolled part (7) of the sheath-like device (1) is placed in a groove (6), which is shaped with one end of the ring-shaped member (8) between an edge (9) of a ring-shaped external wall (10) and an outwardly turned bead (11) at the upper edge of an internal wall section (12). To press out the part (7) of the sheath-like device (1) placed in the groove (6) serves a part (14) of the external wall (10) between principally axial slots (15, 16) together with a member (17) under the uprolled part (7) in the groove (6) and a pivoting ejector member (13). The diameter of the ring-shaped member (8) is exactly so much larger than the diameter of the sheath-like device in unextended condition, that a wall section (33) of the sheath-like device (1) is outstretched like a membrane in an essentially normal plane to the ring-shaped member (8) for the purpose of applying an adhesive substance (34) on said wall section (33) after fitting the sheath-like device (1) in the applicator (3). Furthermore the invention concerns a process for manufacturing a combination of the elastic sheath-like device (1) and the applicator (3).
Abstract:
A hose clamp (8) to be positioned on an outlet hose member (7) from a liquid collection bag (1), e.g. a urine collection bag, is provided with two hingedly connected clamp parts (9, 10), one of which (10) has a U-shaped cross-section and lateral portions (13, 14), including longitudinal slots (15) to receive the bottom portion (4) of the bag (1). When mounted, the clamp (8) is pushed onto the bottom portion (4) of the bag (1) so that only a small part of the clamp (8) extends outside the bag. Thereby, the inconveniences to the user are diminished to the largest extent and an improved security against unintentional opening is obtained.
Abstract:
An ostomy system comprising a monitor device and an ostomy appliance is disclosed, the ostomy appliance comprising a sensor assembly comprising three or more electrodes including a first, second and third electrode. The first electrode and the second electrode form a primary sensor, and the first electrode and the third electrode form a secondary sensor. The monitor device is configured to determine a first value of an electrical quantity of the primary sensor, to determine a second value of the electrical quantity of the secondary sensor, and to determine an operating state of the ostomy appliance based on at least the absolute difference between the first value and the second value. Also disclosed is a corresponding method and a monitor device.
