Abstract:
According to an embodiment, there is provided herein a system and method wherein knowledge of the syngas fermentation is combined with standard instrumentation to provide a stable control of gas supply to automatically poise the fermentation to provide both high conversion of CO and H2, and high selectivity for production of ethanol. The control is based on an automatic feedback loop that corrects for operational imbalance and maintains a stable continuous fermentation required for commercial operation. In a further embodiment, feed of syngas to ethanol fermentation can be optimally controlled using the pH of the broth as the input variable for flow control of the gas. This concept will automatically maintain the correct supply of syngas to the fermentation, and provide stable operation at optimal rates.
Abstract:
A device and method for hand planting cereal grain seed, and other crops where singulation (single seeds planted per strike) is taught. The device and method are capable of serving as a small scale fertilizer and alternative product applicator. The inventive method includes the capability of applying fertilizer and/or other products that are collected and dispensed via a reciprocating drum device. The device preferably includes a tapered (or pointed) soil engagement component capable of striking or penetrating the soil surface. With each planter strike to the soil surface, the device is actuated to meter a granular material product and the reciprocating drum rotates to expose the cavity to a material hopper. As the actuation force is released, the reciprocating drum rotates in the opposite direction to its original location and drops the material that has been metered.
Abstract:
2,4-diaminopyrimidine compounds of generic Formula 1, where R and R′ may be the same or different and are independently selected from: C1-C6 alkyl or alkenyl groups with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 carbon atoms, which may be: branched or unbranched; saturated or unsaturated; and may or may not be substituted, are used to treat anthrax.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for treating and/or preventing bacterial infections in animals such as bovines are provided. The compositions and methods utilize the predatory bacterium Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus to treat and/or prevent infections such as infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) and bovine respiratory disease (BRD). Use of the bacterium obviates the need for chemotherapeutic measures.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for generating co-registerable images for processing is disclosed. The apparatus includes a dichroic filter that splits an electro-magnetic beam into first and second split beams, and a mirror that reflects the second split beam. The dichroic filter and the first and second split beams are arranged to direct the first and second split beams, respectively, along substantially parallel but non overlapping paths.
Abstract:
A method for in-season macro and micronutrient application based on predicted yield potential, coefficient of variation, and a nutrient response index. The inventive method includes the steps of: determining a nutrient response index for a field; determining the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) of an area to fertilize; determining the coefficient of variation of NDVI over a plot; determining a predicted crop yield for the area without additional nutrient; determining an attainable crop yield for the area with additional nutrient; determining the nutrient requirement for the area as the difference between the nutrient removal at the attainable yield minus the nutrient removal at the predicted yield, adjusted by the efficiency of nutrient utilization in the particular crop as indicated by the coefficient of variation.
Abstract:
This patent document discloses a method of fabricating an electrically conductive fiber coated with polythiophene and a carbon material. The low-cost method is amenable to modifications to suit the practical needs in various applications.
Abstract:
Antigenic molecules and compositions described herein protect against infection by typhoidal and non-typhoidal Salmonella serovars. Methods of immunization comprise the use of the antigenic molecules.
Abstract:
Techniques in the disclosure use non-wetting or wetting surfaces to promote or hinder separation of gas from solution in a liquid. The systems and processes promote bubble nucleation and/or promote separation of a gas or gases from a liquid using non-wetting surfaces. Also, the systems and processes suppress bubble nucleation in order to create supersaturated solutions of gas or gases in a liquid by using wetting surfaces.
Abstract:
The disclosed methods are utilized for recovering a high percent of platinum group metals from spent catalytic converters. The methods use an aqua regia bath and ultrasonic agitation to liberate the metals from the carrier material of the washcoat, while leaving the metal supporting structure largely intact.
