    Abstract: Diphenylamine of the formula wherein R1 and R4 each independently represent a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms, amino, lower alkyl amino wherein the alkyl moiety has 1-6 carbon atoms, acylamino, lower carbamylalkyl amino wherein the alkyl moiety has 1-6 carbon atoms, lower hydroxyalkyl amino wherein the alkyl moiety has 1-6 carbon atoms, lower carbalkoxy amino wherein the alkoxy moiety has 1-6 carbon atoms and ureido; R2 and R3 each independently represent a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms, acylamino and ureido; R5 and R8 each independently represent a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms and lower alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms; and R6 and R7 are lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms, with the proviso that (a) when both R6 and R7 represent methyl (1) one of R1 and R4 must represent a member selected from the group consisting of amino, lower alkyl amino wherein the alkyl moiety has 1-6 carbon atoms, lower carbamylalkyl amino wherein the alkyl moiety has 1-6 carbon atoms, lower hydroxyalkyl amino wherein the alkyl moiety has 1-6 carbon atoms and ureido, or (2) one of R1 and R4 represent acylamino and R2 and R3 are not both hydrogen, and (b) that when both R6 and R7 represent ethyl, R2 and R3 are other than tertiobutyl. The said diphenylamine is employed in a dye composition for dyeing keratinic fibers.

    Abstract: Indoaniline of the formula wherein R1 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy; R2 and R3 represent alkyl; R4, R5 and R6 each independently represent hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, acylamino, ureido or carbalkoxyamino and R5 can also represent amino, alkylamino, hydroxy alkylamino or carbamylalkylamino, the alkyl and alkoxy groups above being able to contain 1 to 6 carbon atoms and the acyl group from 2 to 7 carbon atoms with the condition that R5 does not represent hydrogen, chlorine, methyl or methoxy and when R5 represents acetylamino, R6 does not represent hydrogen; it being understood that the above compounds can be present in the tautomeric form of that represented by formula (I). The indoaniline is usefully employed in dye compositions for keratinic fibers, especially living human hair.

[Also in Divisions C2 and C4] Compositions for dyeing keratinic fibres e.g. hair comprises dyes of the general formula: wherein R 1 and R 3 are hydrogen, halogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy, ureido or -NHCOR, R is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, R 2 is ureido, -NHCOR or -NHR 8 where R 8 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 1 -C 4 hydroxyalkyl, or carbamylmethyl, with the proviso that when R 2 is -NHR 8 then R 2 is not hydrogen, and R 4 , R 5 , R 6 and R 7 are hydrogen, halogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy. The compositions may be an aqueous solution, cream, gel or aerosol foam and may contain other hair dyes e.g. azo, anthraquinone, indoanilines or indamines and a wetting, dispersing, swelling or penetrating agent, an emollient or perfume or a cosmetic resin.

    Abstract: 1306613 Dyeing keratinic fibres L'OREAL 30 June 1970 [8 July 1969] 31755/70 Heading D1B Keratinic fibres especially human hair are dyed by applying at least one coupling agent and at least one quinone-imine of an oxidation base in aqueous solution at a neutral or alkaline pH optionally in the presence of an oxidising agent. The quinone-imine may be formed from an aromatic or heterocyclic amine having two amino groups or an amino group and a hydroxy group which groups are ortho or para to one another any conventional coupling agent being used. Preferably the coupling agent is applied to the fibres for 5-20 mins followed by rinsing and application of the quinone-imine for 5-30 mins also followed by rinsing. Wetting, dispersing, swelling and penetrating agents may be present also direct dyes e.g. azo and anthraquinone dyes may be added. A two component pack comprises as first component a solution of a coupling component and as second component a quinone imine as a solution or as a powder.
