Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate searches for a ce ll in a wireless communication environment. A mobile device can employ a sea rcher that can detect timing information respectively associated with PSCs a nd cells to determine the cell with the highest correlation. The searcher ca n detect SSCs, which can include detecting associated phase information, to determine the SSC with the highest correlation, CP length, and/or other info rmation to facilitate identifying a desired cell having the strongest signal to establish communication between the mobile device and the desired cell. PSCs respectively associated with cells can have different positions in the symbol sequences, and SSCs can respectively be phase shifted at different an gles to facilitate detection and identification of a cell(s), where a PSC ca n be utilized as a phase reference by the associated SSC.

Abstract: Techniques for facilitating cell search by user equipments (UEs) in a wireless communication system are described. In an aspect, a primary synchronization code (PSC) sequence may be generated based on a Frank sequence and a constant amplitude sequence that is repeated multiple times. In another aspect, a set of PSC sequences may be generated based on complementary sequences having good aperiodic correlation properties and efficient implementations. In one design, PSC sequences A+B and B+A may be formed based on Golay complementary sequences A and B, there "+" denotes concatenation. In yet another aspect, a set of secondary synchronization code (SSC) sequences may be generated based on a set of base sequences and different modulation symbols of a modulation scheme. Each base sequence may be modulated by each of M possible modulation symbols for the modulation scheme to obtain M different SSC sequences.

Abstract: Techniques for transmitting acknowledgement (ACK) information in a wirele ss communication system are described. The system supports data transmission to multiple user equipments (UEs) on the same downlink resources with spati al division multiple access (SDMA). A base station sends a data transmission with multiple (M) layers to M UEs. The downlink resources used for the data transmission are associated with ACK resources used to send ACK information for the data transmission. The ACK resources may be partitioned into M port ions, e.g., based on frequency division multiplexing (FDM). Each of the M la yers is associated with a respective portion of the ACK resources. A recipie nt UE for each layer sends ACK for that layer on the associated portion of t he ACK resources. For each ACK resource portion, one or more pilot symbols m ay be sent on one or more resource elements, and ACK symbols may be sent on remaining resource elements.

Abstract: A method for controlling power in a wireless network is provided. The method includes determining a relative power parameter at a wireless device such as a mobile wireless terminal and receiving a load parameter at the wireless device, where the load parameter is associated with at least one other wireless cell. The method includes adjusting transmit power of the wireless device in view of the relative power parameter and the load parameter. In another embodiment, the transmit power can be controlled in view of an absolute power spectral density parameter.

Abstract: Techniques for supporting MIMO transmission are described. User equipments (UEs) are classified into a first group of UEs to be scheduled individually and a second group of UEs that can be scheduled together. The classification may be based upon the number of transmit and receive antennas, sector loading, data requirements, long-term channel statistics, the number of UEs, etc. Channel quality indicator (CQI) information received from the UEs is interpreted in different manners depending on the groups to which the UEs belong. A single UE may be selected at a time from the first group or multiple UEs may be selected at a time from the second group for MIMO transmission. A MIMO transmission may be sent to a. single UE in the first group or multiple UEs in the second group at rates selected based upon the CQI information.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a multi-input/multi-output system ( 100 ) includes a receiver ( 104 ), processor, coded bit scrambler ( 114 ), coded bit descrambler ( 130 ), and transmitter ( 102 ). The receiver ( 104 ) generates demodulated symbol streams corresponding to a received signal. The processor generates coded bit sequences from source bit streams when operating in a transmit mode and bit log-likelihood ratio sequences from the information bit streams when operating in a receive mode. The coded bit scrambler ( 114 ) scrambles the coded bit sequences to generate scrambled bit streams when in the transmit mode. The coded bit descrambler ( 130 ) descrambles the log-likelihood ratio sequences by a real-valued descrambling sequence when operating in the receive mode, and also removes the effect of a scrambling sequence. The transmitter ( 102 ) generates a transmit signal corresponding to the scrambled bit streams.
