Abstract: There is a need for a beam tracking technique that reduces the time needed to perform a beamforming procedure and that reduces beam overhead. The apparatus may determine a mapping between a first beam associated with a first type of channel and a second beam associated with a second type of channel. In an aspect, the first type of channel may be different than the second type of channel. The apparatus may receive the first beam associated with the first type of channel and the second beam associated with the second type of channel. In an aspect, the first beam and the second beam may be received from a second device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may be communicating with a base station via beamformed transmissions on an active beam. The UE may receive from the base station refined reference signals (RRSs) that include an active beam RRS corresponding to the active beam. The UE may identify that the active beam RRS corresponds to the active beam and perform a beam state measurement on the active beam RRS. The UE may refine the active beam based at least in part on the beam state information of the active beam RRS.

Abstract: One apparatus may be configured to detect a set of beams from a base station. The apparatus may be further configured to select a beam of the set of beams. The apparatus may be further configured to determine at least one resource based on the selected beam. The apparatus may be further configured to transmit, on the at least one determined resource, a beam adjustment request to the base station. The request may indicate an index associated with the selected beam. Another apparatus may be configured to transmit a first set of beams. The other apparatus may be further configured to receive a beam adjustment request on at least one resource. The other apparatus may be further configured to determine a beam index of a beam in the first set of beams based on the request and the at least one resource.

In a second configuration, the apparatus may be a UE. The UE receives information indicating a periodicity for performing a beam sweep from a base station, adjusts the periodicity for performing the beam sweep, and performs the beam sweep at the adjusted periodicity. For both configurations, the beam sweep is a plurality of transmissions of a beam in a plurality of different transmit spatial directions by one of the base station or the UE and a plurality of scans of the beam transmissions in a plurality of different scan spatial directions by an other of the one of the base station or the UE.

Abstract: The use of a radio access technology (RAT) may enable wireless communication using one or more node functions at a wireless node, such as a base station or access node. Additionally, multiple wireless nodes may communicate in a network using a schedule that is aligned with a frame structure. For example, a wireless node may establish a link with different wireless nodes using a RAT that supports a synchronized frame structure, such as a millimeter wave (mmW) RAT. The wireless nodes may instantiate one or more node functions, such as an access node function (ANF) and a user equipment function (UEF). The wireless nodes may then communicate according to active and suspended modes using the node functions, where the communication is based on a schedule aligned with the frame structure.
