Abstract: 1433168 Esters from unsaturated alcohols and aldehydes STANDARD OIL CO 19 Sept 1973 43892/73 Heading C2C Acrylic and methacrylic esters are prepared by adding an aliphatic or aromatic alcohol containing up to ten carbon atoms to acrolein or methacrolein and reacting the mixture with molecular oxygen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst at a temperature of from 250‹ to 450‹ C. The alcohol is suitably an alkanol of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and the catalyst suitably contains molybdenum, vanadium and/or tungsten. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,266,457.
