Abstract: The present invention relates to filters used to remove debris from water being sucked into a piping system. It has particular application for use in nuclear power plants, which, after a loss of coolant accident, must pump cooling water back into the reactor core from a collection sump. This water may contain various types of debris that must be removed before the water is sent back into the reactor cooling system. Filtering of the debris is realized with the component known as “strainers”. There are restrictions on the space available for installing strainers. The vaned filtering element, for example a vaned fin, of the present invention is designed to reduce the space required for strainer installation by increasing strainer surface area per unit volume, while maximizing the quantity of debris that can be filtered from the water.

Abstract: A filter element has a zigzag-folded filter medium. Filter medium sections joined by a fold edge define an intermediate fold space, respectively, with a fold base and fold peaks opposite the fold base. An elongate support section is arranged in the intermediate fold space on a filter medium surface of one of the filter medium sections. The support section extends perpendicular to the fold edges between fold base and fold peak. The support section has a height extension perpendicular to the filter medium surface that increases in longitudinal direction of the support section from fold base to fold peak. The support section has a free side facing away from the filter medium surface. The support section has a width extension parallel to the fold edges. The width extension decreases parallel to the filter medium surface and perpendicular to the longitudinal direction from fold peak to fold base.

Abstract: An air filter may include a bellows made of an air-permeable filter medium, which is folded in a longitudinal direction to form a plurality of folds, for filtering air, and a supporting frame for supporting the bellows. The supporting frame may be a substantially closed comb-like ring having a plurality of supporting teeth. At least two supporting teeth adjacent in the longitudinal direction may fix at least two folds of the bellows also adjacent in the longitudinal direction to a predefined distance from each other. The comb-like ring may include two fold blades and two outer bands connecting the fold blades. The fold blades may be inserted in a transverse direction running transversely to the longitudinal direction into respective end folds of the bellows. The two outer bands may have the supporting teeth, including high supporting teeth and low supporting teeth.

Abstract: A connecting element (1) for connecting at least two end portions (2A, 3A) of a flat filter medium (2, 3) has at least three legs (1A, 1B, 1C), one end portion (2A, 2B) each being introducible between two legs (1A, 1B, 1C). Under the influence of heat it is possible to connect the material of the legs with the material of the filter medium (2). The connecting element (1) can be used in a filter element (4) and in particular in a filtering device (5), for example an operating fluid filter for a motor vehicle. The object of a method for connecting at least two end portions (2A, 3A) of a flat filter medium (2, 3) is that the end portions (2A, 3A) are introduced between two legs (1A, 1B, 1C) each of a corresponding connecting element (1) and that through heating the material of the legs is connected with the material of the filter medium (1).

Abstract: A fluid filter including: an upper case provided with an outlet hole; a lower case provided with an inlet hole; and a filter element held between the upper case and lower case, wherein the outlet hole and the inlet hole are arranged opposite to each other. The filter element includes a first filter material which is folded and arranged in a communication part connecting the outlet hole and the inlet hole, and a second filter material which is folded and spaced apart from the communication part, and the retention interval L1 of the first filter material in the fold line direction is smaller than the retention interval L2 of the second filter material in the fold line direction.
