Abstract: A mobile instrument includes two housings that each incorporate circuit substrates, a hinge portion that joins the two housings such that they can rotate, and a flexible printed wiring board that is passed through a cavity formed inside the hinge portion, and that electrically connects together the circuit substrates in the two housings. The flexible printed wiring board is curled inside the cavity and an elastic body is placed on an inner side of the curled flexible printed wiring board.

Abstract: A flexible lighting device includes an elongated flexible tube with a translucent tube shell and opposed tube ends and a flexible circuit board set in the tube so that it extends between the tube ends. The flexible circuit board has opposed interior and exterior surfaces. Electrical circuitry is mounted to the circuit board and connected to an external input source and an output source of electrical power. The circuit board defines a number of cut-outs, preferably those of a generally diamond shape. The device is described in two embodiments: one with inwardly directed LEDs on the circuit board directed into the tube and one with outwardly directed LEDs on the circuit board directed out of the tube. The method of making the flexible lighting device is also described.

Abstract: A flexible lighting device, comprising an elongated flexible tube including a translucent tube shell with opposed tube ends, a flexible circuit board positioned in said tube extending between said opposed tube ends, the flexible circuit board having opposed interior and exterior surfaces. Electrical circuitry is mounted to the circuit board and connected to an external input source and an output source of electrical power. The circuit board defines a plurality of cutouts preferably generally diamond shaped. In a first embodiment, a plurality of inwardly directed LEDs are mounted to the circuit board and electrical circuitry with the LEDs positioned adjacent to the tube wall and directed into the hollow of the tube. In a second embodiment, a plurality of outwardly directed LEDs are mounted to the circuit board and electrical circuitry with the LEDs positioned adjacent to the tube wall and directed out from the hollow of the tube. The invention includes a method of making the flexible lighting device including providing a biasable flat circuit board having long edges and short edges and defining a plurality of diamond shaped cutouts. At least one stiffening member is secured to the circuit board or tube or both. LEDs mounted to the flat circuit board and electrical circuitry thereon are rolled into a cylindrical circuit board in one of two possible rolling directions. One direction will cause the LEDs to point inwardly towards the center of the tube and the opposite direction will cause the LEDs to point outwardly away from the center of the tube. The cylindrical circuit board in a rolled biased mode is inserted into the tube and released into a partly biased mode when properly positioned. Power input and power output connectors are added to the electrical circuitry on the circuit board and connector end caps are secured to the opposed ends of the tube.

Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring power in a conductor. A flex circuit may include multiple layers including a voltage sensing layer, a coil layer, and a ground layer. The coil layer includes traces that form a coil structure around a conductor when the flex circuit is wrapped around the conductor. The coil layer generates a voltage that may be integrated to determine a current in the conductor. When the flex circuit is wrapped around the conductor, the voltage sensing layer is closest to the conductor. The voltage sensing layer forms a capacitor with the conductor. Using an adjustable capacitive voltage divider, the voltage of the conductor may be determined from a voltage signal received from the voltage sensing layer.
