Abstract: PURPOSE: A similarity measurement method and its implementation apparatus is provided to prevent a boundary overreach in determining a stereo disparity between a search image and a reference image by using the count of matching pixels having a similar intensity within a matching window, not using directly an intensity value of the search pixels. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of calculating a similarity between a reference window and a search window by using the matching pixel count, and determining a stereo disparity between the reference window and the search window having a largest similarity as a stereo disparity with respect to a reference pixel. The reference window includes predetermined pixels in the center of the reference pixel. The matching pixel count expresses the number of pixels within the reference window having a similar intensity to the pixels included in the search window.
