Abstract: PURPOSE: An anti-lock brake system for a vehicle is provided to simplify the structure and operation principle by performing the contraction and expansion of a brake shoe by a cam mechanically operated, not by hydraulic pressure and to reduce manufacturing cost and easily maintain and repair. CONSTITUTION: An anti-lock brake system for a vehicle generates braking power in proportion to the pedal effort of a brake pedal to each wheel by expanding a brake shoe(5) with power in proportion to the pedal effort of the brake pedal and by frictionizing a brake lining of the brake shoe with a brake drum integrally rotating with the wheel. The anti-lock brake system is composed of a pedal effort analyst(2) for generating electric currents in proportion to the brake effort of the brake pedal; an actuator(3) for generating rotary power by the electric current applied from the pedal effort analyst; a cam(4) having an outer periphery gradually increased and decreased at regular periods and generating braking power to gradually reduce or enlarge the brake lining and the brake drum by gradually expanding or contracting the brake shoe elastically contacted to both sides of the outer peripheral surface of the cam with rotating by the actuator; a stopper(7) for constraining the cam at the angle of maximum braking power not to rotate the cam any more; and a stopping releasing device for freely rotating the cam by the actuator by releasing the constraint of the stopper for the cam when wheels slip and periodically generating braking power by periodically repeating the expansion and releasing of the brake shoe.
