Abstract:
Photocurable compositions are provided based on the use of a triarylsulfonium salt photoinitiator to effect the free-radical cure of particular organic resins, such as an acrylic. A free-radical curing method is also provided for a broad variety of aliphatically unsaturated materials including mixtures of styrene and unsaturated polyesters.
Abstract:
UV curable mixtures of C.sub.(8-28) .alpha.-olefin oxides and certain onium salt photoinitiators, for example, certain diaryliodonium salts, or triarylsulfonium salts, and optionally polyfunctional epoxy resin, have been found useful in paper release coating applications.
Abstract:
Dye sensitized epoxy resins containing an iodonium salt cationic photoinitiator can be used in a variety of adhesive bonding applications. Using low intensity visible light, cure can be initiated after a short exposure of resin coated surfaces followed by clamping the subject pieces together for a time sufficient for a permanent bond to form.
Abstract:
Heat curable compositions are provided comprising cationically polymerizable organic materials such as epoxy resins, vinyl ethers or phenol formaldehyde resins and thermal curing agents, based on the use of certain aryl sulfonium salts with an organic oxidant, such as an organic peroxide, azonitriles, etc. The heat curable compositions can be used as injection molding compounds or as a coating composition.
Abstract:
Cationic polymerization of a variety of organic materials such as vinyl monomers, prepolymers, cyclic ethers, cyclic esters and organosilicon cyclics can be achieved by the use of certain radiation sensitive aromatic halonium salts. In addition, polymerizable compositions are provided which can be used as coating compounds, molding resins, adhesives, etc.
Abstract:
Onium salts of Group VIa elements which have an MF.sub.6.sup.- anion, where M is selected from P, As and Sb, have been found to be photoactive under ultraviolet light. These onium salts can be incorporated as cationic photoinitiators into a variety of cationically polymerizable materials when used in combination with propylene carbonate as an aryl sulfonium salt solvent mixture.

Abstract:
Curable organic resin compositions, such as epoxy resins, are provided, based on the use of dialkyl hydroxy arylsulfonium salts in combination with certain orgainc oxidants such as iodosoaromatic esters, or the use of certain amines or transition metals in combination with organic peroxides. The curable compositions can provide flexible or rigid organic resin foam when used with a volatile organic solvent as a result of exothermic heat of cure.
