    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject substance useful as an intermediate for large ring lactones in good yield at a low cost by a method for hydrogenating and reducing an acid halide of a long-chain diacid monoester, etc., in the presence of a Pd catalyst and alkaline metal salt. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (R is alkyl; n is an integer) is reduced to provide a compound expressed by formula II. The reduction is carried out by hydrogenation and reduction in the presence of a Pd catalyst and alkaline metal salt at 20-350 deg.C under 1-100kg/cm hydrogen pressure, reduction with a reagent of sodium borohydride in an amount of 0.25-2.0mol in the presence of a solvent, such as THF, at 0-100 deg.C or reduction with a quaternary ammonium borohydride expressed by the formula R R R R NBH4 (R to R are alkyl, aralkyl or aryl) in a solvent at about ambient temperature, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simply, safely and advantageously obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for fluorine-containing polymers, by reacting an industrially readily obtainable alpha,omega-diiodopolyfluoroalkane with an olefin in the presence of a derivative of a metal of group VIII. CONSTITUTION:An alpha, omega-diiodopolyfluoroalkane (e.g., 1,4-diiodoperfluoroethane) shown by formula I (n is >=2 integer) is reacted with an olefin (e.g., ethylene) shown by formula II (R is H, alkyl, aralkyl or silyl) in the presence of a catalyst of a metal (e.g., pentacarbonyliron) of group VIII to give an alpha,omega- diiodopolyfluoroalkane (e.g., 1,8-diiodo-3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6-octafluorooctane) shown by formula III.
