    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A substance SATS 2542 having an antitumor activity and the following physicochemical properties and produced by an microorganism belonging to the genus Alteromonas. Decomposition point: decomposes at 213-245 deg.C into a brown color; specific rotation: [alpha] D=+25 deg.(c=0.02, water); an aqueous solution of 1.0mg/ml is weekly acidic - neutral: solubility:soluble in water and slightly soluble or insoluble in organic solvents such as alcohols. acetone, ethyl ether, hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate, mol. wt.:>=100,000 (gel filtration method); coloring reaction: positive to biuret reaction. Folin's reaction, anthrone sulfuric acid reaction and cysteine sulfuric acid reaction and negative to ninhydrin reaction, etc. USE:An antitumor agent. PREPARATION:Alteromonas sp.SCRC-2542 (FERM P-9819) is cultured.
