Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the burden on a control means by generating a display time independently of reproduced data to display it as the reproducing time at the time of fast-forwarding reproducing and fast-rewinding reproducing and starting reproducing from a position corresponding to the display time at the time of switching back to the reproducing mode. CONSTITUTION:When a fast-forwarding/fast-rewinding operation key 13 is depressed during reproducing, a system controller 9 is switched from the reproducing mode to the fast-forwarding/fast-rewinding mode to mute the audio output and counts up/down the display time at about 10-fold speed of normal reproducing. When the fast-forwarding/fast-rewinding key is released, the controller 9 is switched back to the reproducing mode to release muting of the audio output and calculates an address on a disk corresponding to the display time displayed on a display device 14 to restart reproducing of a compressed audio signal from this address. Thus, the burden-of the system control means is reduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the error of a recording operation even if there is a defect at a recording start point by changing the recording start point by a prescribed quantity and restarting the recording operation when the defect of a recording medium is discriminated to exist at the recording start point. CONSTITUTION:A system controller 11 decreases the AGC time constant of an RF amplifier 7 and starts recording as well after waiting usually for 6.7msec when an optical head 3 and a magnetic head 6 arrives at the sector where the recording is executed at the time of recording. The laser power is lowered down to the level at the time of reproduction when the recording operation error is generated by the presence of a flaw in the sector at this time. The recording is started after waiting for 5.7msec upon arrival again at the recording start sector. The recording is similarly started after waiting for 7.7msec at the recording operation when the error arises again. As a result, the normal recording operation is continued without receiving the influence of the flaw.

Thus, the pickup 3 accesses music by the absolute time to shorten the access time.
